Finding a fresh perspective on the game of life

There’s a definite wellbeing buzz here on Girls Around Town this month, with Claire Clements and Louise Hallam in the studio earlier today talking about blissful balance and Alison Harris offering hints and tips for healthy eating habits in two weeks’ time.

Completing the trifecta, Sunita Passi will be joining June next Sunday to share details of an upcoming event in Nottingham and a brand new centre she’s just opened in the beautiful Vale of Belvoir, both of which focus on different aspects of – yes, you guessed it – wellness…

From 7.15pm to 10.45pm on Friday 11 October, she’ll be hosting Create Your Future, a lively exploration of authenticity and how to be more of yourself, whatever form that takes in your life.

During the evening Jamie Catto, whose hit career with Faithless is matched by his enthusiastic approach to spirituality and relationships, will be sharing some of his adventures and what they’ve taught him.

Jamie’s workshops attract people from far afield and, for this one, he’ll be joined by other health and business experts in a panel discussion and Q&A session designed to help participants look forward to a fresh perspective on the game of life.

There’ll be news from Sunita too about her Wellness Centre, now up and running at The Engine Yard following its launch and open day on Sunday 11 August.

In a tranquil spot close to Belvoir Castle, the centre is a place where you can unplug from the world and enjoy a range of classes and treatments with some of the region’s most skilful therapists, from ayurvedic massages, facials and body scrubs to yoga, meditation and more…

Tune in to 107.8FM or listen online between 10am and 12 noon to find out how to take care of your mind, body and emotions through these natural processes of healing.

And how, with a little help from Jamie, you can discover ways to make more of yourself and your life.

Whatever it is we do, we owe it to ourselves to be the best we can be. One blissful consequence is that allows us to support others to do the same – the effects of self-care ripple through everything we do – Sunita Passi

What’s in The Laughter Locker?

Google ‘different kinds of yoga‘ as June did a couple of days ago and, depending on which link you follow, you’ll find descriptions of at least 14 styles.

Not quite an A to Z, more of an A (Ananda) to Y (Yin), but a comprehensive choice nevertheless, with some of the names – Bikram, Hatha and Hot for example – more recognisable than others.

Some of them you’ll know about and maybe even practise yourself but have you heard of – or even tried – Laughter Yoga?

Step forward Teresa Sanderson of The Laughter Locker, one of the guests on Girls Around Town this weekend, who’ll be explaining how the classes she runs combine laughter yoga, breathing, mindfulness and meditation to change mindsets for a healthier, happier you…

She’ll be talking too about lipoedema, a rare fat disease she suffers from herself that was very much a part of the reason she became a Laughter Yoga therapist.

Tune in or listen online from 10am to 12 noon on Sunday morning to find out more about Tess’s work for the charity Lipoedema UK, which appropriately enough launches its 2019 Awareness Month on Sunday too.

She’ll be joining June and Rachel in the studio for the second hour of the show – but make sure you’re listening to the first hour too, when Janice Holmes pops in to share some exciting news.

If you’re expecting any hints here, you’ll be disappointed but all will be revealed shortly after 10am on Sunday!!

Speaking to the soul

I believe painting speaks to the soul like visual poetry, giving hope and joy and inspiration

More and more these days, people are searching for antidotes to the frenetic pace of modern life. There’s a huge growth area in finding ways to reconnect, to carve out some peaceful time……yoga, meditation, mindfulness.

Whether looking at it or making it, art is the epitome of mindfulness and no one knows this better than next weekend’s guest on Girls Around Town

A local artist who makes joyous, colourful and expressive oil paintings, Liz Goulding will be joining Rosalyn and June in the studio to talk about her work which, in addition to exhibiting her paintings, includes making bespoke items for interiors and teaching workshops and art classes.

Liz will be sharing the story of how she arrived at doing what she loves and living her authentic life. She’ll have news too of some exciting upcoming projects such as Art Journalling For The Soul, a Painting and Yoga workshop and her next exhibition, a collection of new work called Serenity.

You can see more of her work on her website – then tune in from 10am to 12 noon next Sunday or listen online  to meet Liz and learn how she’s inspired by the light, colour and texture in the world around her.
