A feast of treats at Thoresby Park

No more excuses for using the C word – with only 56 sleeps to go, Christmas is sure to be front and centre of everyone’s mind by now! Which means it’s time to give some serious thought to shopping…

And if last-minute gifts are on your list, you’ll want to hear what Teresa Molloy has to say when she joins the Girls Around Town in the studio this weekend.

The annual Winterfest Arts and Crafts Fair returns to Thoresby Park on Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 November and Teresa will be sharing all the details of the event with June and Rachel in the first hour of Sunday‘s show.

“One of Nottinghamshire‘s best-kept secrets no longer, last year’s Winterfest was the best yet with some fabulous handmade crafts on sale inside the Victorian Riding Hall and plenty of tasty treats to enjoy outside in The Courtyard too,” she says.

“We’re different from most Christmas fairs – supporting local crafters who put a lot of time and effort into their business is important to us so we only accept handmade items to sell at Winterfest.”

This family-friendly event runs from 10am to 4pm both days, with free admission and visits from Santa himself, along with carol singing from local choirs, music from brass bands and free craft workshops run by Thoresby Studio artists.

Tune in or listen online from 10am to 12 noon for a peek at what’s in store – rumour has it there’ll be some rather special brownies you might want to put at the very top of that shopping list!

Two for the price of one

Listen to the show next weekend and get two for the price of one when guests Andy Tudbury and Paula Drakeford join the Girls Around Town in the studio…

First up it’s Andy, organiser of The Belvoir Flower and Garden Festival which takes place on Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 July.

Set in the castle’s stunning grounds, this brand new event brings together a range of show gardens from award-winning designers, a host of well-known nursery and floral exhibitors in the grand Lakeside Pavilion, a Gardeners’ Question Time panel and an educational area.

With a varied programme of live music from local performers in the Music Zone, everything from Prosecco and quality coffee to artisan cakes and burgers from a master butcher in the Nourish Zone and a wide range of trade stands brimming with garden products, sculptures and gifts, it’s guaranteed to be a great day out for all the family filled with floral inspiration and gardening ideas to take home.

In the second hour of the show, zumba and yoga teacher Paula Drakeford takes centre stage to talk about the classes she runs in the beautiful Ballroom of Upton Hall.

She’ll be explaining some of the benefits of the sessions – from building confidence and releasing stress to improving stamina and gaining fitness – with a little help from Helen Law, who’ll be sharing her own reasons for joining both classes and just what she’s gained from them.

Whether you’re thinking of trying zumba or yoga – or both! – this is your chance to find out what to expect from each of them. There’ll be advance details too of a new and unique dance class Paula will be bringing to Upton soon –  if you’ve always wanted the confidence to strut out in style, Strutology could be just what you’ve been waiting for…

Pampered to perfection

Looking for a bit of a lift to brighten up the dull, dark days of winter?

Well, there’s nothing better than a little ‘me time’, especially if it comes with the chance to indulge in a spot of shopping and a healthy dose of pampering too.

So here’s a date for your diaries when you can enjoy all that and more – and just in time for Valentine’s Day…

There’ll be plenty of treats to try and buy at the Ladies Pamper Evening taking place from 6.30pm to 9.30pm on Saturday 10 February at Bottesford Village Hall.

Enjoy a relaxing massage or an Indian head massage – polish up your act with a new nail colour – tidy up your brows or try a tint on your lashes – and while you’re there check out some of the different holistic and homeopathic therapies also on offer.

You’ll be spoilt for choice on the retail therapy front as well, browsing among a range of stands selling everything from candles, jewellery and garden gifts to handmade fabric pictures, knitted and sewn items and tanning products to name just a few.
