The Italian job

pasta

Could there possibly be a better job than this? Who wouldn’t want to spend their time eating their way round Italy?!

June for one would be at the front of the queue for the post and Tina and Sue wouldn’t be far behind. But sad to say, next Sunday’s guest got there first…

From gelato in San Gimignano to donkey stew in Mantova, Jane Keightley’s been there, tried them and written about them – along with a host of other culinary delights – in her blog, Mrs K Eats Her Way Around Italy.

She’ll be in the studio next weekend to talk about what inspired her to set out on her travels, sharing a few of her favourite moments and no doubt comparing notes with the Girls Around Town about their own choices of dishes to die for!

Although Italy is her first love, Jane’s a big fan of her home county of Lincolnshire too and she’s made it her mission to spread the word about the many jewels in its crown, so often overlooked by travel magazines and guides.

She’s determined to prove that it’s not just ‘flat, boring and full of cabbage fields’ and that once you visit it, you’ll never view Lincolnshire in the same way again!

Tune in or listen online between 10am and 12 noon on Sunday when Jane joins June, Tina and Sue for a whistle-stop tour of two very different but equally enticing destinations.

Great expectations

mother and baby

As we wait – and wait – for spring to come (and actually stick around!), it’s a very expectant time of year right now.

So what could be better than to have Girls Around Town guests who work with women who are (or have been) expecting on this week’s show?

In the studio between 10am and 12 noon on Sunday, Fiona and Sue will be meeting Janey Harvey and Katie Greenfield, both very experienced yoga teachers.  Janey, who specialises in yoga for pregnancy, has been running classes in Newark for over 12 years and will be talking in the first hour about how she helps mums prepare for the big day with gentle yoga.

Then it’s over to Katie for the second hour of the show. Well-known in Newark for her baby yoga classes, she’s also passionate about postnatal yoga, for mums who have recently had a baby. More than just a nice way to relax, this is about helping your body adjust to and recover from the massive changes that birth brings with it – so, if your pelvic floor is a distant memory, this could be just what you need!

Find out more about yoga for pregnancy with Janey here and visit Katie’s website for details of new classes starting next month.

Tune in or listen online on Sunday morning to hear what Janey and Katie have to say and, from Fiona,  find out how homeopathy can also help during pregnancy and birth, whether for health niggles like indigestion or keeping energy levels up during labour. Now breathe…

Lingerie loveliness after breast surgery

Finding the right bra is no easy task at the best of times. But for most of us, the search is a walk in the park compared with the difficulties faced by thousands of women looking for a bra – any bra! – after breast surgery.

Every year, 50,000 women in the UK are diagnosed with breast cancer and they all need to replace their bras immediately. One such woman was next Sunday’s guest Sue Pringle, who was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 40. Following a mastectomy and reconstruction after two inconclusive lumpectomies and a further lumpectomy 10 years later, she just wasn’t satisfied with the choices on offer.

So she decided to put an end to tears in the changing room, to turn what she calls her ‘grump’ into a business – and millie lingerie was born…

Sue joins the Girls Around Town in the studio to talk about how, after a long and successful career in product development and marketing with retailers such as Clarks, Boots and Interflora, she’s just launched a Kickstarter campaign to help move the millie bra from prototype to production.

Sign up to support the campaign and you can take your pick from a series of ‘rewards’, whether you want to be among the first to own a millie, give one to a special friend or family member or help someone else feel a little lingerie loveliness by choosing to make a gift of a millie (or millies) to one of their charity partners, Nottingham Hospitals Charity or Keeping Abreast.

Tune in or listen online between 10am and 12 noon when Sue tells June and Tina about her mission to find ways of making it easier, more accessible and just as much fun as it should be for women to buy a bra after breast surgery.
