Put on your positive pants!

Last week, it was all about bras – this week, the Girls Around Town turn their attention to pants…

Claire Clements, the founder of both Positive Pants and Blissful Balance, joins June and Rosalyn in the studio on Sunday to talk about the different ways in which she helps kids build their confidence and understand the importance of gratitude and positivity.

And bless her, she’s even promised to bring a bag of bras to add to the Bring Out Your Bras! collection Janice Holmes will be taking to Gambia later in the year…

Top of Claire’s list of events at the moment is an inspiring day packed with lots of free fun activities, excitement and knowledge guaranteed to leave children who take part feeling empowered about their future.

Organised in conjunction with Jackie Wilson and Susan Brookes, the first ever Positively Empowered Kids Festival takes place at Nottingham Racecourse from 10am till 4pm on Sunday 30 June.

Ticket prices range from £6.50 to £30 and can be booked online here, where you’ll also find details of what’s in store for visitors – everything from yoga, circus skills and wellbeing crafts to making healthy food, family massage and tai chi to name just a few!

“Our aim is for parents and children alike to leave the festival bursting with ideas and equipped with all the tools and techniques that will help the kids to create true success on their own terms,” says Claire.

Tune in or listen online between 10am and 12 noon when she’ll be talking about the festival in more detail.

And about how putting on a pair of the Positive Pants she sells can give your kids (and you!) an extra boost to get you all through the day…

Bring out your bras!

When Janice Holmes launched her new mobile bra fitting business in Newark recently, even she couldn’t have imagined quite how far she’d be travelling to share her knowledge and expertise…

To say she was excited about what she had to tell June and Rachel this morning is quite possibly the biggest understatement of all time. But then why wouldn’t she be when she’s off to Gambia later this year?

Janice joined the Girls Around Town in the studio to reveal all and to explain how listeners living in Newark and beyond can offer her their support – quite literally!!

She’ll be making the trip in November, accompanied by son Tom and daughter Victoria, to meet and talk to girls and women of all ages living in Gambia.

And above all, with a little help from some of her suppliers and hopefully from you as well, to provide as many of them as possible with their first ever bras…

Janice will be working with the NEW LIFE CHILDREN’S CENTRES charity and all the bras collected will be sent to West Africa in early August to await her arrival.

So how can you help?

Quite simply, check your underwear drawers! How many bras in there do you no longer wear? Too big, too small, the wrong style or colour – chances are you’ll find one or two at least.

All she’s asking is that you donate those unwanted undies – any style or size, so long as they’re in reasonable condition – by taking them to one of the collection points listed below by Monday 29 July.

And don’t forget to tell all your female friends and relatives – guys, that includes you too! – and ask them to get involved. Because every single bra collected will find a new home in Gambia and help change a life…

What’s in The Laughter Locker?

Google ‘different kinds of yoga‘ as June did a couple of days ago and, depending on which link you follow, you’ll find descriptions of at least 14 styles.

Not quite an A to Z, more of an A (Ananda) to Y (Yin), but a comprehensive choice nevertheless, with some of the names – Bikram, Hatha and Hot for example – more recognisable than others.

Some of them you’ll know about and maybe even practise yourself but have you heard of – or even tried – Laughter Yoga?

Step forward Teresa Sanderson of The Laughter Locker, one of the guests on Girls Around Town this weekend, who’ll be explaining how the classes she runs combine laughter yoga, breathing, mindfulness and meditation to change mindsets for a healthier, happier you…

She’ll be talking too about lipoedema, a rare fat disease she suffers from herself that was very much a part of the reason she became a Laughter Yoga therapist.

Tune in or listen online from 10am to 12 noon on Sunday morning to find out more about Tess’s work for the charity Lipoedema UK, which appropriately enough launches its 2019 Awareness Month on Sunday too.

She’ll be joining June and Rachel in the studio for the second hour of the show – but make sure you’re listening to the first hour too, when Janice Holmes pops in to share some exciting news.

If you’re expecting any hints here, you’ll be disappointed but all will be revealed shortly after 10am on Sunday!!
