Let’s connect!

Two women who know all about the power of networking join the Girls Around Town on this week’s show…

A single mum who started her business after winning a fight with cancer, Debbie Clarke works with female entrepreneurs to create financial freedom.

Sitting alongside Debbie in the studio will be Sue Godfrey who, through her business, coaches and mentors people, especially women, to lead healthier lives and grow in self-confidence and self-esteem.

They’ll be describing their own journeys and explaining how they now use what they learned along the way to help others build their businesses and become the best version of themselves.

High on the list of their recommendations is developing relationships with other women, sharing and celebrating success both personal and professional in a safe place where they can inspire and be inspired by what they say and hear.

Tune in or listen online between 10am and 12 noon on Sunday, when Debbie and Sue talk to Rosalyn and Rachel about the power of networking, about some of the groups they’ve founded and now run – and about how joining groups such as these can help you on the road to happiness and success.

There is a special place in hell for women who don’t help other women – Madeleine Albright, first female US Secretary of State

Put on your positive pants!

Last week, it was all about bras – this week, the Girls Around Town turn their attention to pants…

Claire Clements, the founder of both Positive Pants and Blissful Balance, joins June and Rosalyn in the studio on Sunday to talk about the different ways in which she helps kids build their confidence and understand the importance of gratitude and positivity.

And bless her, she’s even promised to bring a bag of bras to add to the Bring Out Your Bras! collection Janice Holmes will be taking to Gambia later in the year…

Top of Claire’s list of events at the moment is an inspiring day packed with lots of free fun activities, excitement and knowledge guaranteed to leave children who take part feeling empowered about their future.

Organised in conjunction with Jackie Wilson and Susan Brookes, the first ever Positively Empowered Kids Festival takes place at Nottingham Racecourse from 10am till 4pm on Sunday 30 June.

Ticket prices range from £6.50 to £30 and can be booked online here, where you’ll also find details of what’s in store for visitors – everything from yoga, circus skills and wellbeing crafts to making healthy food, family massage and tai chi to name just a few!

“Our aim is for parents and children alike to leave the festival bursting with ideas and equipped with all the tools and techniques that will help the kids to create true success on their own terms,” says Claire.

Tune in or listen online between 10am and 12 noon when she’ll be talking about the festival in more detail.

And about how putting on a pair of the Positive Pants she sells can give your kids (and you!) an extra boost to get you all through the day…

Spreading a little happiness with a song!

We all feel a little bit better when we sing, don’t we? A favourite track starts playing out on the radio and suddenly we’re joining in – and often dancing around too!

Chances are some of you will be doing just that listening to Girls Around Town this weekend, especially after you’ve heard what Kari Olsen-Porthouse has to say about singing, not just at home or in a choir but at work as well…

Kari joins June and Rosalyn to describe how she goes about spreading a little joy and wellbeing through group singing.

And how bringing it into the workplace can help create better working relationships and give staff the chance to mix in a different environment.

“I believe we all feel better when we sing but this is amplified massively when we do it together,” says Kari. “As well as running a number of choirs and ensembles, I’m passionate about bringing singing into the workplace. It’s great for morale, for building confidence and, above all, bringing a little laughter into the working day.”

Teaching in a no-nonsense way, she sings songs from across the decades – her singers don’t need any previous experience or the ability to read music, everything she teaches is by ear. When she’s not teaching, Kari blogs regularly through her website and sometimes even finds time to do a bit of singing for herself.

Tune in or listen online between 10am and 12 noon on Sunday to hear what she has to say about her mission to spread a little happiness through song. And feel free to sing along to your favourites from this week’s playlist – no doubt Kari, June and Ros will be doing so in the studio!
