Making a spectacle of yourself!

Spring has well and truly sprung this week, enjoying the great outdoors is a little bit easier now lockdown restrictions are gradually being lifted…

Time to get out and about – and get out your sunnies!

Someone who knows a lot about being spectacular is Paul Cotter from London Eye in Newark.

This weekend’s guest on Girls Around Town, he’ll be on the phone in the second hour of the show chatting to June – who knows a fair bit about specs too, having worn them since the tender age of 13.

Visits to the optician were a lot different back then, of course – standing against a wall, covering each eye in turn and reading off the rows of different sized letters printed on a sheet – and Paul will be describing how much the process has evolved over the years.

He’ll be talking about the importance of regular eye tests, how people’s eyesight changes over time and the rising popularity of designer frames. In case you’re wondering by the way, June’s current pair are by Gucci – no surprise there then!

But it’s not only about making a spectacle yourself, especially when it comes to the sunglasses everyone’s donning now, and Paul will be describing why protecting your eyes from strong sunlight is so vital and how having the right lenses can do exactly that.

Make sure you’re tuned in to 107.8FM or listening online from 11.10am on Sunday to hear what he has to say…

And if you’re heading out for your daily walk after the show, don’t forget to put on those all-important sunnies when you do!

Put on your positive pants!

Don’t forget to put on your Sunday Best this weekend – from 10am to 12 noonGirls Around Town will be back on air…

And just like June and guest Claire Clements, make sure you’ve got your positive pants on too!

It’s Mother’s Day this Sunday of course, so what could be more appropriate than a catch-up with someone whose business is all about pointing mums – and dads – in the right direction towards helping their kids feel empowered in a fun and creative way?

Claire will be on the phone to the studio from 11.10am with the latest news from Positively Empowered Kids, her award-winning network of dedicated and inspiring experts all working to support the next generation.

Top of the list no doubt will be the online Neurodiversity event for parents, which takes place on Zoom and Facebook from 7.30pm every evening between Monday 15 and Friday 19 March.

An opportunity to explore and learn new and different approaches to support and celebrate neurodiversity, this week-long event will be rounded off on Saturday 20 March by a day of workshops for both parents and children, together with a panel event featuring some of the amazing young people Claire and her group have connected with recently.

For more details of this and other upcoming activities with kids at the forefront, make sure you join June and Claire this weekend…

There’s a rumour going round that Claire will have news of a prestigious award too but you’ll need to tune in to 107.8FM or listen online to find out all about that!

Wake up to sleep!

If you snooze, you lose – right?

Wrong!! According to The Sleep Council at least, whose website is all about the importance of a good night’s kip and how it not only makes you healthier and happier but can even add years to your life…

A key element of course is having the right bed and, with next Sunday just a week into National Bed Month, you probably won’t be surprised to learn that’s precisely what June and guest Rosalyn Palmer will be chatting about in the second hour of the show.

Ros will be on the phone to the studio from just after 11.10am to share some of her own thoughts and expert advice about good sleeping habits, while June will be offering up a few statistics she’s come across recently…

Did you know, for example, that Cambridge, Brighton and Manchester top the list of the worst places in the UK to get a good night’s sleep?

Or that nodding off in your socks can increase the amount of REM sleep you get through the night, helping you remember things and process your emotions?!

Make sure you’re tuned in to 107.8FM or listening online from 10am to 12 noon for all this and more from June and Ros…

Sit back and relax – but whatever you do, don’t doze off or you’ll miss your favourite Sunday morning show, Girls Around Town!
