Bra-vissimo!

Remember the show nine months ago when Janice Holmes dropped into the studio to launch her Bras for Gambia appeal?

How confident she was that the ladies of Newark and beyond would bring out their bras to support the project?

And how, a few weeks later, she was back with the Girls Around Town to admit just how much she’d underestimated the response, with over 8,000 bras flooding into Newark from as far afield as Canada and Australia?!

By the time the container was ready to head off to West Africa, that 8,000-plus had grown to 10,000-plus and more than a dozen volunteers had come forward to join her in the experience of a lifetime last November

Catch up with Janice in the first hour of next weekend’s show when she’ll be joined by Lesley Rhodes, one of those volunteers, to tell June all about the trip – the people they met, the places they visited and of course the girls and ladies of all ages who were expertly measured for and fitted with what in most cases were the first bras they’d ever owned.

Now rumour has it that plans are already being made for a return visit.

Tune in to 107.8FM or listen online from 10am next Sunday morning to find out just what could be in the pipeline – apparently next time it might not be only bras they’ll be taking with them!

Say hello to the new girl in town!

Cast your mind back to early last month and you may remember Claire Clements popping into the studio to talk about how she helps clients achieve Blissful Balance in their lives.

Or even further back to the beginning of June, when she made her first appearance on the show to talk about the  power of Positive Pants

Guests on Girls Around Town invariably say how much they enjoy spending their Sunday mornings with June Rachel and Rosalyn but Claire went one step further and, to everyone’s delight, offered to get involved on a regular basis.

So meet the new girl in town – from next month, she’s joining the team as a regular guest presenter!

Claire will be making her debut in November, sharing some of her own thoughts on the topics of the day and giving June a helping hand when they talk to guest Amanda Stone about Christmas-themed events and workshops at Hanwell Estates.

Dates are already in the diary for her to be back in December and January and hopefully they’ll be just the first of many.

But for now, make sure you tune in to 107.8FM or listen online between 10am and 12 noon on Sunday 10 November to hear her make that debut.

And, in the meantime, find out more about Claire here

Bra-vo!

When Janice Holmes popped into the studio at the beginning of June to launch her Bring Out Your Bras! appeal, the Girls Around Town were confident she’d have plenty of support from the ladies of Newark and beyond…

But who could have imagined that, two months on, a staggering 8,000-plus bras are now in a container that will shortly be heading out to Gambia to await her arrival there in November?

And that ‘beyond’ wouldn’t just mean across Nottinghamshire and the UK but all the way to Australia?!

Still reeling from the response, Janice will be back on the show next weekend to describe the impact the venture will have on the lives of all the Gambian girls and women who will soon be wearing their first ever bras.

Joining her next Sunday will be Sylvia Morgan, founder of the New Life Children’s Centres charity. She’ll be giving June an insight into the work it does, providing a future for more than 1,300 children by giving them access to free education and health care and offering outreach programmes to the local communities for hundreds more children and families.

Tune in or listen online from 10am to hear what Janice and Sylvia have to say…

One thing’s for sure, there’ll be a huge ‘thank you’ in there somewhere from them both to everyone whose generosity has made this appeal such a resounding success.
