Fringe benefits

Earlier today, June had a phone call out of the blue from a former business contact, asking for help promoting an initiative the local charity he’s involved with is currently running – watch this space, information on that coming soon…

During the conversation, they were chatting about different ways of keeping your spirits up during the current crisis and something he said really struck a chord.

Yes, everyone needs to safe safe, keep fit and eat healthily – remember that all-important five-a-day rule! – but how about this for another five-a-day you should be adding to your list?

Make sure you’re getting five giggles a day!

With that in mind, here’s one of your five for today from the Girls Around Town with a little help from Michael and Karen of Marshalls Hair in Newark.

Double benefits with this little demo – not only is it guaranteed to bring a smile to your face, it shows you how to tackle that out of control fringe, taking you through what not to do and, more importantly, how you should be doing it!

And for those ladies out there whose husbands’ hair needs a trim, watch this space for more help coming from Michael soon…

A super simple style idea

Thinking about fashion in these troublesome times may seem rather frivolous but what do you think are the chances of June changing the habits of a lifetime?

You’re right – somewhere pretty close to impossible!

And let’s face it, we all need something to take our minds off what’s happening in the world right now, not to mention something to look forward to when our lives finally get back to normal.

Which is why, while the show is sadly off air, the Girls Around Town will be doing their best to look on the bright side of life by sharing stories, ideas, hints and tips they’ve come across recently.

First up it’s a little fashion tip that popped up on the Facebook page of American stylist  Brenda Kinsel recently. It’s super simple but works a treat with t-shirts and tops – June’s totally sold on it so why not take a look and see what you think?

Then watch this space for a few more ideas that June, RosalynRachel and Claire hope might put a smile on your face and a spring in your step…

We’re taking a break – but we will be back!

Here at Radio Newark, the team is continuing to keep you entertained and informed during these troublesome times, broadcasting 24/7 as always.

But unfortunately it’s not so easy where Girls Around Town is concerned…

Your favourite Sunday morning slot relies on lots of lovely guests giving up their time to pop into the studio, sharing their stories, both personal and professional, with listeners in live, face-to-face interviews every weekend.

Under normal circumstances, social distancing is the very last thing on on the minds of JuneRosalynRachel and Claire but at the moment circumstances are far from normal of course.

And since the wellbeing of those guests – and of the girls themselves – has to come first, it’s with heavy hearts that Newark’s Fab Four have decided to take a bit of a break.

But don’t despair – just like Arnold Schwarzenegger, they’ll be back!!

Initially, the show will be off air from Sunday 22 March until the end of April, with the option to extend the break further as necessary.

Looking on the bright side, in its place the lovely Ady Crampton‘s show will be broadcast on both FM and DAB – while the girls are away, Ady will play!!

And there’s more…

Some of the stories that would ordinarily have been aired on the show will now be covered in Sunday Best, a new online magazine that was already in the pipeline anyway, along with extra features designed to keep you connected with the GAT team and the other members of its community.

You’ll be able to access it here on the website, free of charge – just watch this space for details of Issue 1, coming soon.

In the meantime, don’t forget to keep an eye on the show’s FacebookTwitter and Instagram feeds for regular posts and pics. And if you’re missing those Sunday morning chats with guests, why not hop over to the podcast page and listen to one or two of the interviews you may have missed?

Above all, please take care and stay safe – looking forward to making a comeback soon but till then, please continue to support Radio Newark by turning on and tuning in

Big hugs to you all –

June, Rosalyn, Rachel & Claire xxxx
