Love local – shop local – without leaving home!

Almost a week since the second national lockdown was lifted and, even though the whole of Nottinghamshire is still in Tier 3, isn’t it great to be able to support all those independent shops and businesses in person again?

But what if you can’t get out and about as much as you’d like to, if you can’t get to the shops to finish that all-important Christmas shopping?

Fear not – Emma Holden, this week’s guest on Girls Around Town, has the answer you’re looking for…

Thanks to Shop Newark Online there’s a brand new, easy and convenient way to shop the high street from the comfort of your own home!

Emma will be on the phone to June just after 11.20am to talk about the website she recently launched, where you’ll find everything from food to fashion, sweet treats to toys, hair to home and lots more besides.

“Here in Newark we’re so lucky to have a wonderful selection of independent retailers selling a variety of beautiful products and now more than ever it’s important to give them all the support we can,” she says.

Find out how to do just that by tuning in to 107.8FM or listening online on Sunday

What’s the betting June won’t be the only one heading over to Shop Newark Online to get those orders in when the show finishes at 12 noon?!!

United against violence against women

On last weekend’s show, you’ll no doubt have heard June talking about the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, which took place on  Wednesday 25 November.

Since that date, 16 days of action have been taking place, one of which will be held right here in Newark next week.

Commemorating the 108 women killed by men in the UK since 25 November 2019, 108 pairs of women’s shoes will go on display in the Market Place at 8am on Wednesday 9 December. The names of those women, who can no longer see the sunrise or be there for their families and friends, will be read out and the event will of course be captured in photographs.

If you’d like to help mark this, it’s not too late to donate a pair of women’s shoes which, after the event, will either be given to a local charity or returned to the donor.

All you need to do is drop off the shoes at Carriages Café between 9am and 6pm on Friday 4 December – if you want your shoes returned, just make sure they are clearly marked with your name on stickers on the soles.

A bit of seasonal Sanity on Sunday

Have you bought your 2020 Christmas jumper yet? Perhaps you’ve already starting wearing it?

Full disclosure here from June – she’s never bought one, never worn one and has no intention of ever doing so…

But she couldn’t help being intrigued by this recent post on Rosalyn Palmer‘s website – and what perfect timing, with Ros back on the show this weekend!

If like her you want to find out what Ros has to say about Christmas jumpers being all about connection, make sure you’re listening in this weekend, when she’ll be on the phone to the studio to explain all.

It’s part of her regular Sanity on Sunday slot, starting just after 11.10am, when she’ll also have an update on her recent move to Lincolnshire and how she’s been adapting her coaching and wellbeing business during these strange times.

Make sure you’re tuned in to 107.8FM or listening online between 10am and 12 noon on Sunday for all this and more from the Girls Around Town

But what’s the biggest question of all and the first one June will be asking when Ros joins her?

It’s obvious really – even though she’ll only be heard and not seen, is Ros sitting there at the other end of the phone wearing her own seasonal sweater??
