A weekend of colour and inspiration

It’s pretty damp and dismal outdoors right now and no doubt it’s going to get worse before it gets better.

So why not take your mind off the wintry weather ahead and start planning a few days out during spring and summer?

One of the events that’s sure to be high on many lists is the Belvoir Castle Flower & Garden Show

A weekend of colour and inspiration for those with a love of gardening which makes a welcome return to Leicestershire on Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 July.

Organiser Andy Tudbury will be making a welcome return too when he joins June in the studio this Sunday with a quick update on how things went at the 2021 event and – more importantly – what’s already on the cards for 2022.

Whether you’re looking for inspiration from the stunning show gardens and borders, the chance to buy something special for your own garden or need help from the expert horticulturalists in the Let’s Talk area, you’ll find all this and more in the beautiful setting of Belvoir Castle.

No day out would be complete without food and drink of course and you’ll find plenty of both to enjoy while you relax and listen to some of the artists performing on the music stage.

Make sure you’re tuned to 107.8FM or listening online, on the apps or on Alexa from 11.10am on Sunday morning to hear what Andy has to say…

Getting ready for a fortnight of festivals

Are you feeling festive?

Don’t panic, you don’t need to be thinking about Christmas for a while yet – but the festival season is just around the corner and here in the East Midlands it’s time to get ready for festival fortnight!

Not one but two well-known events are in the final stages of preparation right now and if you’re into reading or gardening – or both! – mid July has plenty to offer for the whole family.

First up, from Thursday 8 to Sunday 11 July, the Newark Book Festival returns to various venues across the town…

And it’s closely followed by the Belvoir Castle Flower & Garden Show, which takes place on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 July.

Want to find out a bit more about what to expect? You need to join June next week, when she’s back behind the mic chatting to Andy Tudbury and Becky Goddard-Hill between 10am and 12 noon.

Andy will be on the phone just after 10.20am with the latest news about the Flower & Garden Show in the grounds of the magnificent Belvoir Castle.

Be prepared for a weekend of colour and inspiration for those with a love of gardening, featuring everything from sculpture artists, tools, garden furniture and crafts retailers to live music and a range of food and refreshments…

Along with the opportunity to get your gardening questions answered by expert horticulturists in the Lets Talk area.

Then at 11.10am it’s Becky’s turn to ring the studio to talk about one of the many activities taking place when the Book Festival comes to town once more.

If you’re a mum, a dad or a grandparent, you’ll want to hear what she has to say about Create Your Own Kindness, her latest book that’s packed with fun activities to inspire kids to be kinder to themselves, others and the planet.

Find out how they can take part in the event she’s running on Saturday 10 July – an hour of activities available both online and on the large screen at the National Civil War Centre – and how to get tickets to join in the fun.

Make sure you’re tuned in to 107.8FM or listening online for all this and more when you Put On Your Sunday Best again next weekend!

A blooming good show!

Your garden might not be looking its best right now, especially if it’s still snowy out there as you’re reading this, although it won’t be long before those spring flowers start to bloom, bringing a welcome touch of colour and the promise of lots more to come as we head towards summer.

But if like June‘s your garden is a bit of a wilderness at the moment or maybe you just want to ring the changes a little, the next Girls Around Town guest can definitely point you in the right direction…

Just over the border into Lincolnshire and the beautiful setting of Belvoir Castle to be precise!

The man behind the Belvoir Castle Flower and Garden Show since its launch in 2018, Andy Tudbury will be on the phone to the studio in the second hour of the show this weekend to look back at some of the highlights of the first two events.

He’ll be reporting too on the 2020 show, that went ahead a little later than originally planned with a few changes to comply with Covid-19 regulations, and will be sharing news of this year’s show which is scheduled to take place on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 July.

“We have some great content already lined up for the summer, some you will be familiar with, along with some brand new additions,” says Andy. “You’ll find newcomers to the gardening world rubbing shoulders with some of the best horticulturists in the country, specialist growers, garden furniture, sculptures, tools and much more.

“And fabulous food will tempt you to sit and relax while you listen to the live music on the stage.”

If you’re  a budding garden designer or landscaper, there’s still time to enter the new Design and Build competition sponsored by CED Stone and it’s not too late to book Early Bird tickets for the show either.

Follow the links above to find about more about both of them…

Or better yet, make sure you’re tuned to 107.8FM or listening online from just after 11.20am on Sunday for details from Andy about these and some of the other things to inspire you on the flower and garden front!
