The taste of summer

Newark’s best-known foodie makes a welcome return to the studio next weekend to share some of her favourite seasonal recipes with the Girls Around Town.

Lisa Holloway will be bringing June up to date with what’s she’s been doing since moving on to pastures new after selling Compton House, her award-winning B&B.

As for those recipes, she’s keeping the details under wraps until the show. So you’ll have to tune in or listen online between 10am and 12 noon on Sunday to find out just what’s on the menu.

Will it be pasta or puds, barbecues or brunches? Whatever she chooses, one thing’s for sure; the dishes Lisa will be sharing will be delicious, easy to make and guaranteed to bring a taste of summer to the table.

Handmade with love

Newark’s Royal Market will soon be buzzing on the last Sunday of every month, as local crafters join forces to bring their handmade goodies to town…

With the first Artisan Market taking place from 9.30am to 4pm on Sunday 25 March, organisers Louise Clark and Melanie Luff will be in the studio with June next weekend to talk about the treasure trove of treats in store for visitors in the months to come.

They’ll be taking a look back at some of the Craft Markets held last year and describing how, with the support of Newark Town Council, they’re building on their success to make events like these a regular feature in the town centre.

There’ll be news too of the Spring Extravaganza for Jake’s American Dream, held at Stoke Rochford Hall on Sunday 4 March, and of the special two-day Artisan Fayre over the Bank Holiday weekend of Sunday 27 and Monday 28 May.

Tune in on 107.8fm or on DAB digital radio or listen online to Girls Around Town between 10am and 12 noon next Sunday to find out more.

And if you’re looking for something a little bit different to enjoy, don’t forget to put the last Sunday of every month in your diary!

Passion on a plate

From bikes to bakes on this week’s show, when the Girls Around Town meet Jade Ostler…

Still in her early 20s, Jade has already achieved almost as much as many people do in their entire working lives. And she’ll be in the studio on Sunday morning to tell June and Tina all about it.

After a hectic 10 years, three of them spent living and working in Australia, she’s now back in Lincoln where she’s recently launched Jade’s Bakes.  From cakes to cordials, pies to preserves, traybakes to truffles – if you’ve a sweet tooth, merely reading the descriptions on her website of all the goodies on offer will make your mouth water!

Tune in or listen online between 10am and 12 noon tomorrow to find out more. She’ll be talking about her time spent working in bakeries and restaurants both at home and abroad, including a three-week spell at Rick Stein’s Seafood Restaurant in Padstow, and explaining how the experience she gained gave her the knowledge and confidence to launch her own business.

So just where do the bikes come in?

Well, not so long ago Jade was all set for a sporting career. At 10 years old, she played tennis for her home county, then later switched to cycling and qualified for the British team for the 2012 Olympics.

But her long-time passion for food won out. She turned her attention to baking and, four years later, she’s now sharing that passion, to the delight of cake-lovers in and around Lincoln and beyond!
