The sweet spot

If you’ve been listening to Girls Around Town since the early days, you may remember one particular feature that used to be on the show quite regularly…

Well, next weekend it’s back, courtesy of former GAT presenter Sue Jackson, now known as Sue The Cook, who’ll be joining June to share the recipe for one of her favourite desserts.

Make sure you’re listening in from 11.20am when The Chocolate Moment makes a welcome return!

Unfortunately Sue will only be at the other end of the phone, ringing in to the studio, so she won’t be treating June to a taste of this one.

But with just five ingredients and barely any prep time, what’s to stop June rushing home after the show to whip up her own Chocolate Mousse?

Based on a recipe by celebrity chef James Martin. the hardest part about it will be leaving it in the fridge for at least two hours before tucking in.

You know what they say though – good things come to those who wait!

And if you want to try it for yourself, you won’t even need to make a note of the ingredients and method while you’re listening in. Just check back here or on Facebook after the show and the recipe will be waiting for you…

Tune in to 107.8FM or listen online between 10am and 12 noon next Sunday for all the usual good music, chat and more that makes Girls Around Town the sweet spot of the week on Radio Newark!

Sunday – best day of the week once more!

At last, the news you’ve all been waiting for – Newark‘s favourite show by, for and about women will be back on 107.8FM and online soon!

There’ll be a few small changes to the format, in line with government guidance about safety and social distancing, but rest assured June, Rosalyn, Rachel and Claire will still be going all out to keep you informed and entertained between 10am and 12 noon every Sunday morning…

Kicking things off on Sunday 12 July, June will be in the studio catching up with fellow presenter Ros by phone in the first hour.

Then in the second hour, it’s time for Wendy Baird from Carriages to give her a call and talk about the fantastic work the team at the Newark café has been doing recently.

Believe it or not, over the last few months literally hundreds of meals have made their way to the homes of Newark residents, many of whom would have normally visited Carriages every Wednesday evening for the Community Café

Make sure you’re listening from 11.20am to find out from Wendy how, with the help of local businesses and lots of willing volunteers, those meals just kept on coming – and will continue to do so.

There’ll be plenty of good music throughout the show too and news of some of the other guests already lined up for the next few weeks…

When lockdown began at the end of March, the Girls Around Town told you they’d be back as soon as possible and finally they’re ready to make good on their promise!

Let’s connect!

A packed house in the studio this weekend, with no fewer than four guests joining June and Claire from 10am on 107.8FM

If you’re a business owner or a professional operating in the food and drink sector, you’ll want to hear what Leisa Pickles, Becky Dobb and Francesca Tricarico have to say in the first hour of the show.

They’ll be sharing details of a brand new B2B event coming to Newark that’s all about networking – a familiar topic on Girls Around Town but with a bit of a difference this time around.

An opportunity to meet up with others in the same sector, Making Connections in Food and Drink is tailored specifically to businesses and individuals working in and around Newark who want to share knowledge and ideas, discuss collaborations and even showcase their products during the evening.

The event runs from 6pm to 8pm on Wednesday 4 March and takes place at Ann et Vin on Castlegate. Whether you just want to mix and mingle with like-minded professionals or want to book a stand for the evening, Leisa, Becky and Francesca will have all the information you need.

Or you can get ahead of the game by booking your place here

And if you’re a serviced-based working mum – think coaches, consultants, therapists and the like – be sure to stayed tuned for the second hour of the show when it’s Gemma Gilbert‘s turn to talk about getting connected…

Just like many of the guests interviewed on the the show, Gemma’s a working mum herself and, as a business coach, her aim is to show her clients how to grow the businesses they love and attract all the customers they can handle without sacrificing time with their families.

She’ll be describing some of the strategies that have worked for her and talking about her Facebook group Mummy’s Got Clients, a place where members can ask questions, get help, collaborate – and of course connect!

Tune in to 107.8FM or listen online  from 10am to 12 noon on Sunday for all this and more from Leisa, Becky, Francesca and Gemma – and from presenters June and Claire as well!
