It’s vintage darling!

vintage darling eventsAfter a whirlwind appearance for the first hour next Saturday, Tina and Sue will be leaving June holding the fort for the rest of the show, while they head off to judge entries in The Big Newark Bake Off.

But she’s more than happy to let them eat cake (even if it is chocolate) since she’ll be indulging in another of the Girls Around Town‘s passions, albeit only talking about it!

Joining June shortly after 11am will be Clare Lees from Vintage Darling Events, with news of something special taking place on Sunday 28 June.

With clothing, memorabilia, furniture, crafts and jewellery all on sale, the Radcliffe Vintage Fair is a must if, like the girls, you love shopping.

There’ll be a rock ‘n’ roll DJ, hair and beauty makeovers and children’s entertainment too – and Elsie the Vintage Caravan will be putting in an appearance to serve up scrumptious cream teas…

Tune in from 10am to 1pm on Saturday or listen online to find out more. And look out for the girls in Radcliffe a week on Sunday, chances are they won’t be able to resist a visit!

booksFrom Beatrix Potter to Harry Potter, Charles I to the Chelsea Flower Show, whatever your literary leanings you’ll find something to tempt you to visit the Lowdham Book Festival this month.

On Saturday’s show, organiser Jane Streeter gave us just a taste of what’s in store between Friday 18 and Sunday 28 June. And The Girls Around Town have already put various sessions in their diaries – including several where CAKE is involved!

If Jane’s introduction to some of the events featured in this year’s festival whetted your appetite too, you can read all about it and download the full programme here

Show and tell

flintham museumThe spotlight will be on two of our local villages in Saturday’s show, when the Girls Around Town take a look at what’s happening out in Flintham and Lowdham this month.

Living in Flintham, Tina’s got the inside track on the new exhibition in its award-winning museum and she’ll be talking to Sue Clayton shortly before it opens to the public at 11am.

Keeping the Home Fires Burning? is a free interactive exhibition about the impact of World War I on the village and its residents. Visitors on Saturday and Sunday – 11am to 4pm both days – will even have chance to decide how well villagers coped during and after the war, with each one given an old penny to use as they cast their vote.

Then the girls will be getting the lowdown on this year’s Lowdham Book Festival from their second guest of the day, Jane Streeter

Now in its 16th year, this popular event celebrates books of every genre, with talks, treasure hunts and music all on the menu between Friday 19 and Sunday 28 June.

For all this and more, join June, Tina and Sue and their guests on 107.8FM or online from 10am to 1pm on Saturday.
