Taking a break for Christmas – but back for the New Year!

If you were listening to Girls Around Town yesterday, you’ll know that June will be taking a break on Boxing Day

But don’t worry, she’ll be back to start 2022 with a bang on Sunday 2 January!

In the meantime, a quick shout out to all the lovely listeners and to each and every one of the equally lovely guests who’ve joined her on the show throughout 2021 – far too many to mention by name of course but every one of them made getting up early on Sunday mornings an absolute pleasure!

Have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year everyone and don’t forget that Radio Newark will be broadcasting 24/7 as usual throughout the festive break on 107.8FM, on the apps and online

The perfect background as you’re wrapping pressies for family and friends on Christmas Eve, unwrapping your own gifts the next day before tucking into the turkey and then raising a glass or two to celebrate the New Year!

Above all, don’t forget to Put On Your Sunday Best again on Sunday 2 January and every Sunday going forward.

June’s already started lining up lots of great guests to join her in the studio or on the phone, gathering plenty of quirky stories to share on the show and looking forward to playing plenty of good music to keep you entertained.

Watch this space for details of the first of those guests – stay safe over the break – and make sure you’re turned on and tuned to welcome her back on air in a couple of weeks’ time!!

Season’s greetings from the Girls Around Town

Wow, what a year this has been! The Girls Around Town have been busier than ever throughout 2019 and by Sunday 29 December will have

  • Presented 51 shows (just one weekend off for the coverage of the Newark Half Marathon in August)
  • Welcomed 59 different guests to the studio
  • Brought you 60 interviews

From books and bras to death cafés and dance, fashion shows and flowers to loos and laughter yoga, pop up shops and pants to wills and wellbeing…

June, Rachel, Rosalyn and Claire have covered them all – and a lot more besides!

They couldn’t let the year end without saying a huge thank you to all the lovely ladies (and a few brave blokes as well) who gave up their own Sunday mornings over the past 12 months to make the shows so entertaining, informative and such great fun.

And thanks too to those of you follow us on FacebookTwitter or Instagram and especially to everyone tuning in to 107.8FM each week to listen to the stories all those guests had to tell…

If there’s one New Year resolution your four favourite Radio Newark presenters will be making, it’s to keep up the good work – welcoming guests new and old to the studio and bringing you lots more news, views and laughter throughout the months ahead.

Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for something brand new coming your way from the Girls Around Town next year. They’re keeping it under wraps for now but all will be revealed soon – in the meantime, from Newark’s Fab Four

Thank you one and all – have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year – here’s to a great 2020 together!!

How to be frugal but still festive!

Mum of four Claire Lyons returns to Girls Around Town this weekend with more hints and tips on how to become a Frugal Family.

And this time, not surprisingly, it’s all about making sure you don’t end up breaking the bank during the festive season…

From letters to Santa to an Advent calendar with a twist and more, she’ll be sharing some of the ways you can follow in the footsteps of the Lyons family over Christmas.

Tune in or listen online between 10am and 12 noon on Sunday to find out too about the family’s resolutions for 2019 and some of the things Claire has in store for the online community whose members share her resolve to live a more ethical and frugal life.

Don’t worry though, she won’t be telling you that you can’t enjoy the celebrations! She’ll be explaining how her own family – and yours – can still have fun without being unnecessarily wasteful.

As she says on her website, it’s all about ‘living your dreams, within your means’…
