Falling in love with fashion

Hopefully there’s still a little time left to enjoy the last few weeks of summer but even so it’s probably not too early to start looking ahead to autumn.

And if in your case that means thinking about shopping for new outfits, Ann Hayes from Ann et Vin and Lucky Secret Boutique‘s Sue Allen will be in the studio next weekend with news of something which will definitely be right up your street…

The street in question is Castlegate in Newark, the ‘something’ is an Autumn Fashion Show and, given the fact that it’s being hosted by Ann et Vin, you won’t be surprised to learn that there’ll be fizz as well as fashion on Thursday 12 September!

From 6.30pm to 9.30pm, local businesses will be joining forces to raise funds for Beaumond House Community Hospice in an evening which features new autumn ranges from Lucky Secret Boutique alongside handbags, lingerie, jewellery, scarves, shoes, make up and more.

Tickets are on sale now, priced £15 each which includes a glass of Prosecco on arrival and nibbles during the interval. To book your seat by the catwalk, visit Lucky Secret Boutique on Wilson Street or call 01636 919748.

And don’t forget to tune in to 107.8FM or listen online from 11am next Sunday when Ann and Sue will be sharing more details of the event with the Girls Around Town.

They’ll be chatting to June, who already has her ticket for the show – but then what else would you expect from a self-confessed shopaholic?!

Pampered to perfection

We all deserve a little bit of ‘me’ time occasionally, don’t we?

And if it comes with shopping and a glass of Pimms too – well, what’s not to love?

When Emma Mayle mentioned an evening with all this and more coming up in Balderton during her interview on the show a couple of weeks ago, June and Rachel immediately spotted a chance for a fun night out.

Not surprisingly, Rosalyn was quick to agree – so it’s Girls Around Town On Tour on Friday 29 March

The Pimms, Shopping and Pamper Evening takes place from 7pm to 9.30pm in St Giles Church Hall (opposite Chesters pub for those of you not too familiar with Balderton) and tickets are just £5 each, with a glass of Pimms included in the price.

But you’ll have to get your skates on if you haven’t got yours yet – advance booking is essential and the deadline is Wednesday 27 March.

With Mothering Sunday and Easter just around the corner, you’ll find plenty of ideas for gifts and treats among the stands with fresh flowers, dream catchers, jewellery and paintings just a few of the goodies on offer.

Add bouquets of sweets from Simply Sweet, garden ornaments, children’s books, music from Adele Woodsford Priestley, a fashion show courtesy of Rocket Retro and a raffle to the mix and it’s safe to say there’ll be something for everyone…

From a pampering perspective, how about a mini manicure, a mini head massage or a chance to check you’re wearing the right size bra and browse through the lovely lingerie sold by Janice Holmes, another recent GAT guest?

All proceeds from the evening will be divided equally between Newark‘s Beaumond House Hospice, St Alice Hospice in Esher and Cancer Research UK. So call or text Lorraine West on 07707 524998 by next Wednesday to get your tickets and support these good causes while having an equally good time.

Oh and there’ll be cake too – in fact, rumour has it there might even be Pimms cupcakes! Need we say more?

If the bra fits…

Wearing an ill-fitting bra isn’t just uncomfortable, it can cause all kinds of problems – from back, shoulder and neck pain to poor posture and skin abrasions.

Despite this, women everywhere are getting it wrong when it comes to bra size – in fact according to one major UK retailer, over 80 per cent of those using its fitting service had been doing just that!

With 34 years’ experience as an underwear specialist under her belt, one woman who clearly knows the importance of getting it right is Janice Holmes, next Sunday‘s guest on Girls Around Town.

She’ll be chatting to June and Rachel – and probably sizing them both up as she does so! – about her new mobile bra fitting business. And about how, since launching Janice Rose Lingerie just a few months ago, she’s already helped dozens of ladies living in and around Newark find the perfect fit…

“Being professionally measured and fitted for a bra can make a huge difference to how a woman looks and feels so it’s important to go to an expert fitter regularly,” she says.

“But for many women, it’s not that easy because age, illness, infirmity or simply circumstances can prevent them visiting a store. It’s women like this I want to help, whatever their age, shape or size, by providing a bespoke and intimate service more sympathetic to their needs.”

Tune in or listen online between 10am and 12 noon to hear the advice Janice has to offer – and find out whether June and Rachel are in that 80 per cent in need of her help!!
