Tina’s on tour!

Winter fest picJune and Sue will be holding the fort in the studio this Saturday, while Tina takes Girls Around Town on tour!

She’ll be spending the day at the Ecocentre, taking part in their Winter Fest. And although she’ll be busy exhibiting and selling her BeLOVEd art from her heart, she’s promised to make time to report back on what’s going on around her…

One of the guests she’s sure to want to chat with is artisan baker extraordinaire Gail Hooley, who’ll be making mince pies in the eco-kitchen during the Victorian Christmas-themed event.

She’ll also have news of some of the other activities taking place during the day, from trailer rides and carol singing to wreath-making and other crafts. And no doubt sampling some of the hot chestnuts, winter punch and other goodies on offer as well…

There’ll be sweet treats for children who come in fancy dress and Santa will be making an appearance too.

The Winter Fest runs from 10am to 3.30pm on Saturday 5 December and you’ll find the Ecocentre at Home Farm, Lodge Lane, Screveton NG13 8JL – if you fancy a day out on the farm, just follow the link for directions or call Julia on 01949 21261 for more details.

And don’t forget to tune in or listen online from 10am to 1pm for news from the studio of more things Christmassy in and around Newark…

A tasty tale

tasty-tale-heroHere’s something for anyone with kids aged seven and over – a very special show that’s coming to your local library next month…

Written by Noel Greig and packed with plenty of music, laughter and scary bits, A Tasty Tale is an exciting re-working of the much-loved fairy story, Hansel and Gretel.

Two hungry children abandoned in the woods. A delicious house made of gingerbread. Hansel is not as brave as he boasts he is. Gretel is bolder than she thought she could be. The witch has a scheme that doesn’t quite work out. And the duck learns just how wise he can be…

A feast of local flavours

food festThe Girls Around Town will be casting the culinary net even wider on Saturday, taking a look at a fabulous festival coming up next month.

Celebrating local food from artisan producers based in and around Nottinghamshire, the Winter FoodFest returns to Thoresby Courtyard near Ollerton on Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 November.

And who better to give June, Tina and Sue the inside scoop on what to expect than the festival’s organiser?

Alison Lowe will be taking a break from pulling it all together to talk about some of the terrific stalls lined up for this annual event, now in its seventh year.

With cookery demonstrations by local chefs in the Kitchen Theatre, a themed Treasure Hunt for children and plenty of tasty treats to try and buy in the Riding Hall and the Courtyard, it’s a must for foodies. And the ideal opportunity to start preparing for the festive season by stocking up on Christmas fare and gifts…

The Winter FoodFest is open from 10am to 4pm both days, admission is free and there’s plenty of free parking on site too.

For the very latest on all the goodies in offer, don’t forget to tune in or listen online from 10am to 1pm on Saturday…
