Show and tell

flintham museumThe spotlight will be on two of our local villages in Saturday’s show, when the Girls Around Town take a look at what’s happening out in Flintham and Lowdham this month.

Living in Flintham, Tina’s got the inside track on the new exhibition in its award-winning museum and she’ll be talking to Sue Clayton shortly before it opens to the public at 11am.

Keeping the Home Fires Burning? is a free interactive exhibition about the impact of World War I on the village and its residents. Visitors on Saturday and Sunday – 11am to 4pm both days – will even have chance to decide how well villagers coped during and after the war, with each one given an old penny to use as they cast their vote.

Then the girls will be getting the lowdown on this year’s Lowdham Book Festival from their second guest of the day, Jane Streeter

Now in its 16th year, this popular event celebrates books of every genre, with talks, treasure hunts and music all on the menu between Friday 19 and Sunday 28 June.

For all this and more, join June, Tina and Sue and their guests on 107.8FM or online from 10am to 1pm on Saturday.

An eventful(l) show

open studiosWondering what the Girls Around Town have lined up for you on this week’s show?

Well, it’s going to be all about events – whether you’re into contemporary art and craft, enjoy a good book or just fancy a bit of pampering with a delicious afternoon tea thrown in for good measure, you’ll get the lowdown on the what, where and when on Saturday…

Between now and the end of next month, you can visit the Lowdham Book Festival, check out the local art and craft scene in Open Studios Notts or relax and enjoy an Afternoon of Indulgence with Beaumond House at Floral Media in Caunton.

To find out more, join Tina, Sue and their guests on 107.8FM or online from 10am to 1pm on Saturday. It’s June‘s turn to have a weekend off but don’t be too surprised if she’s on the phone from her sunny Italian balcony at some point in the first hour!

From plot to plate

asparagus-lime-mintIt’s all about making the most of fresh seasonal produce this week, with hints and tips on what to buy right now and how to cook it from the Girls Around Town‘s guests Katharine Maxey and Lisa Holloway.

Back in February, Maxeys Farm Shop scooped the FARMA Newcomer of the Year Award, so Katharine certainly knows a thing or two about the ‘what to buy‘.

And who better than Lisa – already well known to listeners for her award-winning Compton House B&B and regular appearances on the show – to offer up some suggestions about the ‘how to cook it‘?

Join June and Sue (Tina‘s having a weekend off!) and their two foodie friends on 107.8FM or online from 10am to 1pm on Saturday for plenty of inspiration – and watch this space for some of Lisa’s delicious recipes early next week…
