A stress-free summer

And even if it doesn’t bring endless blue skies and as much sunshine as we’d like, with school holidays looming a little bit of advice on how to keep stress levels to the minimum wouldn’t go amiss!

A regular guest on the show since Radio Newark first launched back in November 2013, homeopath Fiona is joining the Girls Around Town as their wellbeing expert – welcome to the team, Fiona!

She’ll be in the hot seat once a month and, after sharing some of her own healthy hints and tips, will be discussing a range of therapies, treatments and other issues with guests from the wider world of  wellbeing.

First up is Sue Mcfarlane of Natural Therapies For You, offering listeners advice on self-care for the summer. Find out how eating well can help lower stress levels and pick up a few of her practical tips for keeping calm and enjoying summer, kids and all!

Sue will even be taking Fiona, June and Tina through one of her simple exercises live on air – why not set aside a few minutes on Sunday to join in at home?

Tune in to the show this weekend and these are just a couple of the tips Jenny Knight and Emma Tilbury of Flower Barn will be sharing with the Girls Around Town…

The two sisters spend their working days designing and creating beautiful bouquets and stunning centrepieces for weddings and other special events.

So who better to talk about the latest trends in floristry, which blooms are topping brides’ lists these days and how to turn a simple bunch of flowers into an attractive arrangement for your own home?

Jenny and Emma will be joining June and Tina in the studio on Sunday morning – listen online or on air between 10am and 12 noon for the answers to all these questions and more!

With just two weeks to go till Books in the Castle returns to Newark for the second year, June and Sue will be chatting to festival organiser Paul Trickett on this Sunday’s show.

Throughout the day on both Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 July, the Castle Gardens and Undercroft will play host to a series of author talks and special events celebrating the world of books.

Join Paul and the Girls Around Town between 10am and 12 noon, on air or online, to find out about some of the weekend’s highlights – from Crime Scene Saturday to children’s story-telling, shows and crafts sessions, there’ll be something for all the family to enjoy.

Admission to the Castle grounds is free and tickets for the author talks are available now at WH Smith in Newark or by contacting Paul (paultrickett@hotmail,com). All-day tickets for the Saturday can be purchased online here, priced £25 for admission to the seven crime-writing talks between 10.15am and 7pm.

Also on the show, Tina will be reporting live from her garden in Flintham, one of 12 in and around the village open to the public this coming Saturday and Sunday.

She’ll be taking a quick break from showing visitors around to call the studio with an update on what’s on offer – everything from garden tours and plant sales to delicious homemade refreshments available in the village hall…
