Pampered to perfection

Looking for a bit of a lift to brighten up the dull, dark days of winter?

Well, there’s nothing better than a little ‘me time’, especially if it comes with the chance to indulge in a spot of shopping and a healthy dose of pampering too.

So here’s a date for your diaries when you can enjoy all that and more – and just in time for Valentine’s Day…

There’ll be plenty of treats to try and buy at the Ladies Pamper Evening taking place from 6.30pm to 9.30pm on Saturday 10 February at Bottesford Village Hall.

Enjoy a relaxing massage or an Indian head massage – polish up your act with a new nail colour – tidy up your brows or try a tint on your lashes – and while you’re there check out some of the different holistic and homeopathic therapies also on offer.

You’ll be spoilt for choice on the retail therapy front as well, browsing among a range of stands selling everything from candles, jewellery and garden gifts to handmade fabric pictures, knitted and sewn items and tanning products to name just a few.

Award-winning black comedy comes to Averham

Brush off the winter blues with an evening of black comedy at the Robin Hood Theatre, Averham’s beautiful 150-seat Victorian gem!

Following the sell-out success of A Christmas Carol in December, God of Carnage tells the tale of two couples who meet to talk about a playground incident in which Alan and Annette’s son has hit Michael and Veronica’s son in the face, breaking two of his teeth.

As the night wears on and drinks are imbibed, what begins as a civil discussion soon sees the couples sparring against other. But before long the men gang up on the women and the spouses switch sides as the fighting continues.

Yasmina Reza‘s ‘very funny tragedy’ was written originally in French and later translated into English for Broadway and West End productions. In 2008, its UK premiere with Ralph Fiennes, Tasmin Greig, Janet McTeer and Ken Stott received the Tony Award for best play of the year; four years later, when Kate Winslett and Jodie Foster starred in the Roman Polanski film, it earned the description of a ‘joyously unpleasant film’.

God of Carnage runs from Tuesday 23 to Saturday 27 January. The theatre bar and lounge open at 6.45pm, with performances starting at 7.30pm. Tickets are £12 and available online or from the theatre Box Office  on 07733 179986.

New year, new show – and a new girl in town!

The show may be off air at the moment but there’s a lot going on behind the scenes as the Girls Around Town get ready to return…

If all goes to plan, they’ve something extra special in mind for the first show to make sure things get off to a sparkling start and – headline news – there’s another new girl in town!

After a fond farewell to Tina, who left the show in November to concentrate on her new business BELOVED@THE BARN, Rachel Repper is joining the team full time. Local theatre-goers will know her as one of the leading lights of the Robin Hood Theatre and if you’re a regular listener, you’ll have heard her as a guest on Girls Around Town several times this year. So who better to become the latest co-presenter when GAT#2 takes to the airwaves in a few weeks’ time?

In other news so far, the guest list for early spring is growing, the new feature Sunday Supplement is coming together nicely and ideas for informative and entertaining interviews and discussions are flowing thick and fast. There’ll be plenty of opportunities for you to get involved in the conversations too, with invitations to have your say on everything from vegan cookery to big knickers via the Facebook page and Twitter feed.

In the meantime, if you’re making a list of resolutions for the New Year, here’s one more to add. Watch this space for confirmation of the relaunch date and be sure to put Sundays from 10am to 12 noon in your diary for the rest of 2018…
