Here comes the bride…

The whole country’s been gripped by wedding fever for weeks and finally the big day is about to dawn…

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle tie the knot at St George’s Chapel in Windsor on Saturday – but then you knew that, didn’t you? So after spending most of the day glued to the TV, the Girls Around Town will have plenty to talk about on this weekend’s show!

Tune in or listen online between 10am and 12 noon on Sunday, when June and Rachel will be joined by not one, not two, but three guests to give their verdict on the Royal Wedding.

With a little help from Becky, Dean and Daniel, they’ll be sharing their verdict on everything from the dress and the cake to the guests and the ceremony, as well as adding a personal touch with anecdotes from their own nuptials…

And of course they’ll be raising a glass to the happy couple – well, it would be rude not to, wouldn’t it?!

Let’s get lippy!

Need an excuse to buy a new lippy?

Of course you don’t – lipsticks are like handbags, you can never have too many. And even better, unlike handbags they’re not going to break the bank…

But if you’re looking for a good reason to add to your collection, how about this for one of the best?

Throughout May, a new campaign by the Eve Appeal will be encouraging women – and men! – to #GetLippy by speaking up about the signs and symptoms of gynaecological cancers and helping to raise funds for life-saving research.

And there’s even a national Get Lippy Day coming up towards the end of month.

The Girls Around Town are definitely going to #GetLippy (nothing new there, then!) and here’s how can you get involved too…

First you need to buy that new lipstick or lip balm, of course – the Eve Appeal has teamed up with various beauty retailers  who’ve all pledged to put a percentage of the sale price towards gynae cancer research. Take your pick from the list of products here, buy your lippy in store or online as shown and at least 10 per cent of the purchase price will be donated to the charity.

Then pucker up and post your best “pout and shout” selfie on social media, using the hashtag #GetLippy, and don’t forget to nominate a friend to do the same.

You can also make a £3 donation to the charity by texting LIPPY to 70660*. And why not go one step further by signing up for a free campaign pack and getting a group of colleagues and friends together to take part in Get Lippy Day on Friday 25 May?

Every year in the UK alone, more than 21,000 women are diagnosed with one of the five gynaecological cancers and, sadly, 21 women lose their battle each day. But awareness levels of these cancers are far too low so come on ladies, it’s time to #GetLippy with the Girls Around Town!

And please share your selfies on the GAT Facebook page too – you never know, we might even manage to find a little treat for the best one…

*Each text costs a donation amount of £3 plus network charge. The Eve Appeal receives 100 per cent of your donation. Obtain bill payer’s permission. Charity No 1091708 (Eng and Wales) SCO42612 (Scotland).

Two for the price of one

Listen to the show next weekend and get two for the price of one when guests Andy Tudbury and Paula Drakeford join the Girls Around Town in the studio…

First up it’s Andy, organiser of The Belvoir Flower and Garden Festival which takes place on Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 July.

Set in the castle’s stunning grounds, this brand new event brings together a range of show gardens from award-winning designers, a host of well-known nursery and floral exhibitors in the grand Lakeside Pavilion, a Gardeners’ Question Time panel and an educational area.

With a varied programme of live music from local performers in the Music Zone, everything from Prosecco and quality coffee to artisan cakes and burgers from a master butcher in the Nourish Zone and a wide range of trade stands brimming with garden products, sculptures and gifts, it’s guaranteed to be a great day out for all the family filled with floral inspiration and gardening ideas to take home.

In the second hour of the show, zumba and yoga teacher Paula Drakeford takes centre stage to talk about the classes she runs in the beautiful Ballroom of Upton Hall.

She’ll be explaining some of the benefits of the sessions – from building confidence and releasing stress to improving stamina and gaining fitness – with a little help from Helen Law, who’ll be sharing her own reasons for joining both classes and just what she’s gained from them.

Whether you’re thinking of trying zumba or yoga – or both! – this is your chance to find out what to expect from each of them. There’ll be advance details too of a new and unique dance class Paula will be bringing to Upton soon –  if you’ve always wanted the confidence to strut out in style, Strutology could be just what you’ve been waiting for…

Tune in or listen online when June and Rachel strut their own stuff from 10am to 12 noon  next Sunday
