Behind the scenes of a busy life

From strutting her stuff on stage to chairing one of Newark‘s leading networking groups, this week’s guest on Girls Around Town is no stranger to the limelight – meet PR account manager Kerri Saxby, who joins June and Rachel in the studio to talk about her various roles past, present and future…

A member of Newark Business Club since August 2015, she was elected chairman earlier this year and is looking forward to working alongside its committee and members to raise the town’s profile.

Keen to extend NBC‘s links with local businesses and to support new companies coming into the area, she’ll be explaining how she’s making it her mission to encourage new members from different sectors to join the club.

She’ll be looking back too at the time she spent helping to build a school in Zambia last year, as well looking ahead to her part in Stroke of Genius Community Theatre Company‘s upcoming production of Giving Up Guilt.

Written by Caroline Drury and Cliff McArdle, this new musical comedy tells the story of modern living when it seems that everything except being thin, keeping fit and being successful leaves most of us with a guilty conscience about something or other.

The show goes on tour later this month, with its first stop at the Magnus Academy in Newark on Friday 22 and Saturday 23 June. Then it’s on to Muskham Community Centre on Tuesday 26 June before ending its run on Friday 29 and Saturday 30 June at Claypole Village Hall.

Tune in or listen online between 10am and 12 noon on Sunday for a look behind the scenes of Kerri’s busy life…

Nourish the skin you’re in

NOURISH (verb) : Provide with the food or other substances necessary for growth, health and good condition

Online, on TV or in magazines – wherever you look, there’s no shortage of advice about how to nourish your body, about what to eat (and what not to eat!) to stay healthy.

But just how much do you know about making sure you’re nourishing your skin in the best way possible too?

Step forward Shona Munro, this Sunday‘s guest on Girls Around Town, whose luxurious award-winning skincare and perfumes are handmade in small batches, organic, vegan, with no water added and non-toxic.

She’ll be explaining what inspired her to set up Skin Elixir, describing some of the challenges she’s faced and talking about where she’s hoping to take the business in the future on this week’s show with Rosalyn and June.

There’ll be news too of Let Go & Flow Inner Sanctum Sunday, when Shona will be joining forces with Dena Smiles of Probiotic Love to host a celebration of some of Nottingham‘s finest wellbeing practitioners.

Find out what they have planned for Sunday 24 June, when a yoga class, Shamanic Open Heart Drumming Meditation and a range of workshops will be among the treats on offer during this four-hour retreat, which starts with a Probiotic Love Kombucha cocktail on arrival and includes a delicious lunch and goody bag too.

Tune in or listen online between 10am and 12 noon to discover how to nourish – and love – the skin you’re in…

Food for thought

You’ve almost certainly heard of foodbanks – perhaps you’ve even donated food or household products at a collection point located in one of the shops or churches in or around the town…

But how much do you really know about the work done by the volunteers who run and staff the Newark Foodbank?

One of those volunteers, Jenni Harding, joins the Girls Around Town on this week’s show to explain why, when and where the Newark Foodbank first opened its doors and how it’s grown since then.

Find out how the tinned, long-life, packet and non-perishable foodstuffs, basic toiletries and baby needs donated by the local community are helping to change the lives of single people, couples and families who, for a myriad of different reasons, find themselves short of money and in a crisis situation.

Tune in or listen online from 10am to 12 noon  on Sunday when there’ll be more food for thought from Rachel and Rosalyn as they share some of their own recipes for simple, nutritious meals.

And, if you miss the show, don’t forget to keep an eye on the GAT Facebook page for the link to the podcast early the following week…
