Simply scent-sational!

candela shopWho doesn’t love a pretty perfumed candle?

There’s nothing quite like the combination of softly flickering light and a heavenly scent to help you unwind after a stressful day or set the scene for romantic meal – after all, Valentine’s Day is just around the corner!

With its range of hand-poured soy wax candles and melts, complemented by diffusers and room sprays, The Candela Shop in Beeston opened for business in the middle of December, just in time to take advantage of the last-minute rush for Christmas gifts.

cognac and orange candleOwner Saffron Bradshaw sources her stock from small artisan producers across the UK. Toxin-free and totally natural, the candles come in a wide choice of fragrances – how about Cognac and Orange from Cambridge, Sparkling Mint Massage or Irish Winter (both from Belfast) or Saffron’s own current favourite Strudel, from Smouldering Wicks in nearby Nottingham?

After a busy first few weeks in the run-up to Christmas, Saffron is now getting ready for the shop’s official launch on Saturday 31 January.

Details are still being finalised but expect goody bags packed with luscious treats and offers, a ribbon-cutting ceremony by the Mayor and celebratory fizz of course! Put the date in your diaries and watch this space for updates…

You’ll find The Candela Shop at 1 Stoney Street in Beeston. Opening hours are 10am to 5.30pm on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday; 10am to 5pm on Wednesday; 9.30am to 5pm on Saturday; and 10am to 4pm on Sunday.

O come all ye faithful…

community carols 3…To Newark Market Place, where you’ll find everything from carols and choirs to Santas and shopping on Sunday 14 December…

The festive fun begins at 10am, when local traders set out their wares for the Christmas Market. Bag a bargain or two, find fabulous gifts and treats for family and friends – and even have them wrapped in The Buttermarket.

community carols 1Then get right into the spirit of Christmas at 11am, as the Newark Town Band and local school choirs join forces for the Community Carol Concert. There’ll be plenty of opportunities for audience participation and the choir of Newark Business Club will be there too, singing their own unique version of The 12 Days of Christmas…

No celebration of Christmas would be complete without Santa, of course. Or in this case lots of Santas, as local residents of all ages take part in the charity Santa Dash, racing around the Market Place to raise money for Beaumond House.

community carols 2The children’s dash starts at 12 noon, it’s ready, set, go for adults at 12.45pm and if you fancy taking part yourself, there’s still time to register – just follow this link, sign up and start fundraising.

And in case you need an extra incentive to join in the fun, it’s just been announced that parking in Tolney Lane car parks will be FREE on Sunday 14 December (and on Saturday 13, Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 December too)…

Perfectly pampered in time for Christmas

Another date for your diaries if you feel the need for a little ‘me time’ before all the fun and frenzy of Christmas gets under way…

From 10.30am to 11.15am, image consultant and stylist Hayley Smith will be showing you how to sparkle during the festive season, offering all the advice you need on the best outfits for your body shape and how to accessorise them to perfection.

Or how about finding out how to to use the age old wisdom and practice of Ayurveda to discover more about your health and wellbeing and how to get back in balance?

stella and dotOr drop in any time between 10am and 2pm to chat to the specialists and shop for fashionable and affordable jewellery and accessories from Stella and Dot with Hayley Smith and Melissa Bainbridge, Vicki-Sue‘s fabulous handmade yoga clothing, 100 per cent organic skincare and toiletries from Karen Green and more…

Admission to the Pamper Day is free but voluntary donations to Newark Women’s Aid will be gratefully received.

And because no pamper day would be complete without a few tasty treats, there’ll be teas, coffee, homemade cakes and Christmas chocolates on sale too.
