Are you ready to brave the shave?

As promised ladies and gentlemen – how to tidy up your husband’s/partner’s hair, courtesy of Marshalls Hair in Newark

With the help of his lovely wife KarenMichael takes  you step by step through the process which, as you’ll see from the recap at the end, in their case included several quick breaks for a sip or two from the whiskey coke, fizz and glass of wine they had close at hand!

Of course if your experience of shaving someone’s hair is limited, you just might want to hold off on the drinks till you’ve finished the final stage…

Fringe benefits

Earlier today, June had a phone call out of the blue from a former business contact, asking for help promoting an initiative the local charity he’s involved with is currently running – watch this space, information on that coming soon…

During the conversation, they were chatting about different ways of keeping your spirits up during the current crisis and something he said really struck a chord.

Yes, everyone needs to safe safe, keep fit and eat healthily – remember that all-important five-a-day rule! – but how about this for another five-a-day you should be adding to your list?

Make sure you’re getting five giggles a day!

With that in mind, here’s one of your five for today from the Girls Around Town with a little help from Michael and Karen of Marshalls Hair in Newark.

Double benefits with this little demo – not only is it guaranteed to bring a smile to your face, it shows you how to tackle that out of control fringe, taking you through what not to do and, more importantly, how you should be doing it!

And for those ladies out there whose husbands’ hair needs a trim, watch this space for more help coming from Michael soon…

Choc(k) full of fun

Whether you want to bring along your best bake or just your appetite, find out more on next weekend’s show when Ann Hayes joins the Girls Around Town to talk about what’s in store,

Entries will be judged in three different categories – best decorated one-tier cake, best children’s bake (open to under 16s) and of course best chocolate cake – and whether you’re planning on being a baker or a taster, tickets are just £10 each.

Doors open at 12 noon for entrants to set up and the all-important judging, then the equally important tasting will get under way at 1pm.

With all the proceeds from the event going to the Stand Up For Cancer campaign, it’s the perfect opportunity to help raise funds for this much-loved charity while enjoying a bit of Sunday afternoon fun – what’s not to like about that?

Tune in to 107.8FM or listen online from 10am to 12 noon next Sunday when Ann will be sharing all the details with June and Claire.

In the meantime, you’ll find more about the event here and if you’re a would-be star baker you might want to get a little bit of inspiration from the contestants of The Great Celebrity British Bake Off, who’ll be making their first appearance in the famous tent on Channel 4 at 8pm on Tuesday 10 March
