Choc(k) full of fun

IMPORTANT UPDATE – THURSDAY 19 MARCH

Due to the current situation, the event below has unfortunately been cancelled

Do you fancy your chances of being crowned Newark‘s new Star Baker next month?

Have you got the skills – and the chocolate! – to walk away with the title when Newark Does Bake Off returns to Ann et Vin on Sunday 19 April?

Whether you want to bring along your best bake or just your appetite, find out more on next weekend’s show when Ann Hayes joins the Girls Around Town to talk about what’s in store,

Entries will be judged in three different categories – best decorated one-tier cake, best children’s bake (open to under 16s) and of course best chocolate cake – and whether you’re planning on being a baker or a taster, tickets are just £10 each.

Doors open at 12 noon for entrants to set up and the all-important judging, then the equally important tasting will get under way at 1pm.

With all the proceeds from the event going to the Stand Up For Cancer campaign, it’s the perfect opportunity to help raise funds for this much-loved charity while enjoying a bit of Sunday afternoon fun – what’s not to like about that?

Tune in to 107.8FM or listen online from 10am to 12 noon next Sunday when Ann will be sharing all the details with June and Claire.

In the meantime, you’ll find more about the event here and if you’re a would-be star baker you might want to get a little bit of inspiration from the contestants of The Great Celebrity British Bake Off, who’ll be making their first appearance in the famous tent on Channel 4 at 8pm on Tuesday 10 March

Let’s raise some dough!

Have you been watching The Great Celebrity Bake Off for Stand Up To Cancer on Channel 4 over the last few weeks?

Probably not ideal viewing if, like June, you’ve given up cakes for Lent but great entertainment nevertheless – and all in a good cause too, of course.

If you’ve been inspired to follow the example of Jeremy Paxman, Johnny Vegas, Nicola Adams and the other 17 celebs lined up for the series, here’s your chance to do just that.

Whether you’re a Star Baker or a Soggy-Bottomed runner up, Newark Does Bake Off wants to hear from you. And you can hear all about it next Sunday, when Ann Hayes joins June and Rachel in the studio…

Bring your best bake – or just your appetite – to Ann et Vin on Sunday 14 April and join in the fun from 2pm. Tickets, priced £10 for bakers and £10 for testers, are on sale now from 23-25 Castlegate and all proceeds will be going to Stand Up To Cancer.

The Girls Around Town were a little disappointed to learn that the hunky Mr Hollywood won’t be among the judges. But between them Newark town mayor Tony Roberts and local chef/restaurant owner Steve Taylor no doubt have all the experience and expertise needed to step up to the plate in his place!!

Tune in or listen online from 10am for all the details from Ann. And find out whether June, Rachel and Rosalyn will be putting their own baking expertise to the test or just going along to give their taste buds a treat…
