Party with the Pod!

flower pod bouquetIf you were listening in on Saturday 16 May, you’ll have heard Anna Joyce talking to the Girls Around Town about the excellent work done with adults with learning disabilities across Nottinghamshire by the charity Reach Learning Disability.

Later this month, they’re holding two events at the Flower Pod in Southwell, the social enterprise developed to help raise funds for the charity.

Both take place on Saturday 20 June at Home Farm, Brackenhurst Lane, Southwell and they’d love it if you could join them for one – or even both! – of them.

From 10.30am to 4pm, it’s the Flower Pod Open Day – find out what Reach is all about, refresh yourself in the pop up café and enjoy a leisurely wander around this beautiful spot.

Tickets are £3 each and are available in advance or you can just pay on the day.

Or why not party with the Pod? Their Midsummer Party starts at 7pm and continues till late, with three-course supper, licensed bar, live music and a comedian all included in the £25 ticket price.

Tickets for both events are available from Reach, Prebend Passage, Southwell or by calling 01636 819066 – and you can also pick up a ticket for the Midsummer Party from Burleys on King Street in Southwell.

Everything’s coming up roses…

outdoor_plants_wide1The Girls Around Town will be taking a look at all things garden-related on this Saturday’s show, in the company of their guests Paul Taylor and Anna Joyce.

First up from just after 11am, Paul from Reg Taylor’s Garden Centre in Southwell will be sharing his hints and tips for getting the best out of your garden in the summer months ahead.

Find out what to plant when and how to keep your displays looking their beautiful best – which in June‘s case probably means staying on top of the weeding!

Part of the charity Reach, that supports over 150 adults with learning disabilities in Nottinghamshire, they’re celebrating a major award won recently in a national competition run by The English Garden Magazine. Anna will be talking about the exciting new project the award will be helping to fund and explaining how listeners can help support the charity by buying some of their home-grown blooms.

Tune in to 107.8FM or listen online from 10am to 1pm on Saturday as June, Tina and Sue get the low-down on all things floral…

Share the love this Saturday

With Valentine’s Day looming, here’s a way to spread a little love, not just to your partner but to a local charity too…

Flower Pod Southwell and Gannets Café in Newark have joined forces to help you do just that, with beautiful bouquets and handmade crafts that make perfect gifts for next Saturday.

Pop into the café on Castlegate to check out some of the items on display and get your order in to make somebody’s Valentine’s Day extra special. And if you don’t have a Valentine, who’s to say you can’t just treat yourself instead?!

Around 30 volunteers from the charity have been busy making pretty little keepsakes, with handmade picture frames, rustic wreaths and hearts made from string and raffia, leaves, willow, poplar, dogwood, birch and bramble all available to buy.

And if you’re looking for a more traditional token of your affection, Flower Pod will have a limited number of sustainably produced British bouquets available to order this week. Priced £20, £25 and £30, they can be collected from the Southwell site or the Reach office, delivered locally or posted for an extra £12 (Thursday or Friday delivery) or £17 (Saturday delivery).

All proceeds will go to help the work of Reach (formerly known as The Southwell Care Project), a registered charity that supports over 150 adults with learning disabilities in Nottinghamshire by running courses, social activities and projects to help people get the life they want in their own community.
