Putting health and wellness at the top of the agenda

It’s all about networking again this weekend, when Johanna Thompson and Kayleigh Langley join the Girls Around Town to talk about the meetings and events they organise for people working in the health and wellness industry.

They’ll be sharing details of the Wellness Network‘s regularly monthly meetings, currently held in Lincoln and Grantham, which bring together like-minded professionals to share best practice, make new contacts and create collaborations.

There’ll be news too of their plans to expand the group’s activities to other locations, a look back at some of the special events that have taken place recently and a look ahead to one on the cards for Sunday 8 September.

The Grantham Health & Wellness Show at the Urban Hotel runs from 11am till 3pm and visitors can take their pick from no fewer than 10 short talks on popular topics such as the facts and fiction of the menopause, green beauty, reflexology and how a boudoir shoot can help boost your confidence.

With various demonstrations on the programme, a range of stands to browse around and the opportunity to try different exercise classes, there’s something for everyone at this free event. And there’s even a goody bag for the first 100 people who register!

Summer fun – and shopping! – in Newark

School’s out, it’s time for some fun – and there’ll be plenty to choose from in Newark this summer…

Louise Clark joins June on the show this weekend to talk about upcoming events in the town. And top of the list is the new Summer Dusk Market taking place between 5pm and 9pm on Wednesday 31 July.

Browse among the 30-plus stalls in the historic Market Place, enjoy the entertainment and take advantage of the opportunity to pop into a few of more than 20 of the town’s independent shops staying open till late for the occasion.

With face painters, jugglers, Punch and Judy and a colouring competition, there’s lots for the kids to enjoy while you explore the foodie quarter or buy gifts and treats as the sun sets over the stalls.

Wine and Words returns to Newark Book Festival

With the 2019 Newark Book Festival just days away now, the spotlight’s on one of its opening events during the second hour of this week’s Girls Around Town.

As the three-day Festival weekend gets underway, local poets Fiona Theokritoff and Jane Wyles will be returning to Carriages Café for another of their ever-popular Wine and Words evenings.

They’ll be joining June and Rachel on Sunday morning with news of what’s in store for guests on Friday 12 July– two lively, fun-filled hours featuring poems from their own repertoire and the work of others, a chance to try poetry bingo and get involved in creating an audience poem – and, of course, there will be wine!

Tickets for Festival Wine and Words – which can be purchased from Carriages Café at Newark Castle Station or by calling 01636 676129 – are £10 each, with nibbles and a glass of Bucks Fizz or OJ on arrival included in the price. Further drinks can be purchased at the bar and parking for guests is free from 6pm.
