Baked to perfection

a good chocolate cakeIt’s all about chocolate on The Great British Bake Off this Wednesday, so what could be more timely than a masterclass on how to make the perfect chocolate cake on Saturday’s Girls Around Town?

And who better to pass on a few hints and tips than this week’s guest, Cassandra Jameson?

As the driving force behind The Big Newark Bake Off and Newark’s very own Flour Fairy, she’s sure to have the inside scoop on how to get it right – and why we sometimes get it wrong!

Who knows, having interviewed Mary Berry recently she might even share a few words of wisdom from the Queen of British Baking herself…

Chocoholics unite – join June, Tina and Sue on air or online from 10am to 1pm to discover Cassandra’s recipe for success!

Let them eat cake!

Tina and Sue ready to rise to the challenge!

Faced with the arduous task of sampling no less than a dozen different chocolate cakes this morning, Newark’s answer to Mary, Mel and Sue took a deep collective breath, seized their spoons and jumped straight in!

Judging the entries in one of the categories of The Big Newark Bake Off was a tough job but who better to take it on than June, Tina and SueRadio Newark‘s Girls Around Town, well known for their championing of everything chocolatey?

The cakes were judged on taste and texture, with no points awarded for the quality of the decorating (although they did look very impressive!). It was a close-run thing, with the entries scoring pretty highly on the mmmmm-ometer, but after sixty calorie-laden minutes the results were in.

From bean to bar

reloved chocolate makingIt’s no secret that the Girls Around Town have a real weakness for anything involving chocolate, which they’ll be indulging to the full when they judge entries in The Big Newark Bake Off on Saturday!

So it’s hardly suprising that this workshop at RELoved on Stodman Street in Newark caught their eye…

From 7pm to 9pm on Wednesday 25 June, Chocolate Heaven is an opportunity to find out all about the fascinating journey ‘from bean to bar’.

You’ll taste and savour different types of chocolate and be shown how to make and flavour ganache truffles, fondants and caramels. By the end of the workshop, you’ll have your own delicious chocolates finished, boxed and ready to take away and enjoy.

Places are limited and available on a first come, first come basis at £25 each, with all materials provided. To book, email relovednewark@gmail.com or call 01636 918746.

And keep an eye on the RELoved website for details of future workshops, including vintage lace and wire brooch making, felting, crochet and cushion making…
