Putting health and wellness at the top of the agenda

It’s all about networking again this weekend, when Johanna Thompson and Kayleigh Langley join the Girls Around Town to talk about the meetings and events they organise for people working in the health and wellness industry.

They’ll be sharing details of the Wellness Network‘s regularly monthly meetings, currently held in Lincoln and Grantham, which bring together like-minded professionals to share best practice, make new contacts and create collaborations.

There’ll be news too of their plans to expand the group’s activities to other locations, a look back at some of the special events that have taken place recently and a look ahead to one on the cards for Sunday 8 September.

The Grantham Health & Wellness Show at the Urban Hotel runs from 11am till 3pm and visitors can take their pick from no fewer than 10 short talks on popular topics such as the facts and fiction of the menopause, green beauty, reflexology and how a boudoir shoot can help boost your confidence.

With various demonstrations on the programme, a range of stands to browse around and the opportunity to try different exercise classes, there’s something for everyone at this free event. And there’s even a goody bag for the first 100 people who register!

Tune in or listen online between 10am and 12 noon on Sunday for all the details from Johanna and Kayleigh. In the meantime, you’ll find more information about the talks here – places are free but they’re limited so you do need to register if you want to secure yours.

And if you’re quick, you just might be going home with one of those goody bags too…

Summer fun – and shopping! – in Newark

School’s out, it’s time for some fun – and there’ll be plenty to choose from in Newark this summer…

Louise Clark joins June on the show this weekend to talk about upcoming events in the town. And top of the list is the new Summer Dusk Market taking place between 5pm and 9pm on Wednesday 31 July.

Browse among the 30-plus stalls in the historic Market Place, enjoy the entertainment and take advantage of the opportunity to pop into a few of more than 20 of the town’s independent shops staying open till late for the occasion.

With face painters, jugglers, Punch and Judy and a colouring competition, there’s lots for the kids to enjoy while you explore the foodie quarter or buy gifts and treats as the sun sets over the stalls.

Tune in or listen online from 10am when Louise will have more details of what’s on offer during the evening, as well as information about some of the other events and activities to look forward to over the coming months.

Will power

Over two years have flown by since Carrie Boughtwood first joined the Girls Around Town to talk about the importance of making a will.

In that time, she’s helped dozens of people prepare these vital documents, among them June herself, so it’s particularly appropriate that the two of them will be revisiting the subject on this Sunday‘s show…

With a law degree from Sheffield University and more than 11 years’ experience as a qualified solicitor, Carrie set up her own business APT Legal in 2016, writing wills, preparing Powers of Attorney and providing probate advice to clients living and working in and around Newark.

“As a trainee with a law firm in Surrey, I always loved commercial property and that was what I initially planned to specialise in,” she says. “But before you qualify as a solicitor you have to do spend time in different departments and, when I started working in the Private Client department, I fell in love with that area of law.

“It’s so personal, I love helping people make sure their wishes are followed.”

Although no-one wants to be reminded of their own mortality, there’s no doubt about it – your will is the single most important piece of paper you’ll ever sign. And, as Carrie will be explaining, getting it right is every as bit as important.

If making a will or setting up an LPA is something you’ve been putting off, you’ll want to hear what she has to say during the second hour of the show.

Tune in or listen online from 11am, when she’ll be talking about some of the pitfalls of not having a will or an LPA, the different aspects they cover and the peace of mind and protection that come from working with someone who’s legally qualified rather than going down the DIY route.
