Are you an Eco Worrier?

Are you worried about the current climate emergency but not sure how you can help to halt it?

Do you wonder what you could possibly do to make a difference, given the sheer size of the problem?

One woman who’s determined to make such a difference and help others to do so as well is Claire Kay, who joins the Girls Around Town in the studio this weekend to explain why and how…

“I’m no eco warrior but I am getting worried and upset about the state of our planet and the impact our lifestyle can have on the environment and I want to try and do my bit if I can,” says Claire, who launched her Facebook group Eco Worriers: Women for Change last month.

Now over 3,000 women, many of them based right here in Newark, are members of the group, where they describe some of the the ways in which they and their families are doing their best to help the environment.

Claire will be sharing some of these with June and Rachel and she’ll have details too of the petition she’s started, appealing for updated recycling facilities in and around Newark and clearer information about what can and can’t be recycled.

Tune into 107.8FM or listen online from 10am on Sunday to find out how to join her and her fellow Eco Worriers and how, by making your own small changes, you can help make that difference too.

We can’t do everything but we can all do something

Let your jewellery do the talking

Another guest who’s turned a hobby into a business, Laura Young joins the Girls Around Town in the studio this weekend to explain just why and how she did it…

She’ll be telling June and Rosalyn how creating handmade jewellery to help with post-natal depression in 2013 gradually changed into something more and how, through her business Lexico, she now offers a wide range of accessories in a variety of styles.

Completely self-taught, she still continues to learn new skills and is currently undertaking a crystal healing course which will allow her to add crystal jewellery to that range and give advice on the different ways in which it can help.

One of the winners in the Theo Paphitis Small Sunday Business awards earlier this year, she’s understandably excited about meeting the man himself next February and looking forward to helping more clients accessorise themselves with some of the bespoke and personalised items she creates for them.

Tune in to 107.8fm or listen online between 10am and 12 noon on Sunday when Laura will be sharing her story and her passion for bringing her ideas and designs to life…

We all like to be different and stand out from the crowd so, although we have lots of beautiful unique pieces, we love creating customised items and personalised gifts too. Let your jewellery do the talking!

Season’s greetings from the Girls Around Town

Wow, what a year this has been! The Girls Around Town have been busier than ever throughout 2019 and by Sunday 29 December will have

  • Presented 51 shows (just one weekend off for the coverage of the Newark Half Marathon in August)
  • Welcomed 59 different guests to the studio
  • Brought you 60 interviews

From books and bras to death cafés and dance, fashion shows and flowers to loos and laughter yoga, pop up shops and pants to wills and wellbeing…

June, Rachel, Rosalyn and Claire have covered them all – and a lot more besides!

They couldn’t let the year end without saying a huge thank you to all the lovely ladies (and a few brave blokes as well) who gave up their own Sunday mornings over the past 12 months to make the shows so entertaining, informative and such great fun.

And thanks too to those of you follow us on FacebookTwitter or Instagram and especially to everyone tuning in to 107.8FM each week to listen to the stories all those guests had to tell…

If there’s one New Year resolution your four favourite Radio Newark presenters will be making, it’s to keep up the good work – welcoming guests new and old to the studio and bringing you lots more news, views and laughter throughout the months ahead.

Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for something brand new coming your way from the Girls Around Town next year. They’re keeping it under wraps for now but all will be revealed soon – in the meantime, from Newark’s Fab Four

Thank you one and all – have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year – here’s to a great 2020 together!!
