Art from the heart

tina cosmos picIf you’re a regular listener, you’ll know that the Girls Around Town don’t just present a weekly radio show…

From artist to author, PR guru to IT expert, public speaker to blogger – between the three of them, they count all these skills and more among the strings to their bows!

On the show this weekend, the spotlight is on Tina as she celebrates her latest achievement – a month-long exhibition of her Cosmos Art at Bingham Library.

Running from Friday 1 to Saturday 30 April, the exhibition features a series of 10 artworks inspired by images from space and from learning about our place in this vast universe.

tina's cosmos exhibitionTina will be talking to June about the whole experience, from the first time she put paint to canvas to just what’s involved in mounting an exhibition – a process that’s rather more complicated than merely hanging pictures in a gallery apparently!

As part of the event, she’ll be in the library every Friday afternoon throughout the month to meet and greet visitors. And on Friday 22 April there’ll be a workshop for those who want to join her for a play in the cosmic art box. Advance booking for this is essential as places, priced £10 each, are limited – to find out more, contact Tina via her Facebook page.

Tune in or listen online between 10am and 12 noon this Sunday – there’ll be news too of another event in Bingham, when Sue Mcfarlane chats to the girls about her free No Hands® Massage session on Saturday 23 April…

A crafty collection

a little bird told me 2It’s no secret that the Girls Around Town like shopping.

If they’re not doing it, they’re talking about it – and June for one has never been known to pass up the opportunity to check out a new shop in town…

So when A Little Bird Told Me Emporium opened last month, it wasn’t long before she dropped in to meet owner Louise Clark. And, just in case you’re wondering, she didn’t leave the shop empty-handed – no surprise there then!

Louise will be joining June and Sue on the show this weekend to talk about how her new venture is giving local crafters the chance to showcase and sell their work.

Almost all of the shabby chic arts and crafts on sale are hand-made and the shop also sells upcycled old furniture which has been given a new lease of life.

Twenty-five people are already involved with A Little Bird Told Me, some of whom will be passing their skills on to customers by running workshops on topics such as flower arranging and furniture painting. There’s also a small tea room at the back of the shop and a weekly pop-up nail bar offering vintage-style designs.

Join June, Sue and Louise between 10am and 12 noon on Sunday, on air or online, to find out more about how one local businesswoman is giving other small businesses a helping hand…
