A chance to have your say

get involvedNo guests on the show this Saturday – it’s just June, Tina and Sue chatting about some of the things that have caught their attention in the news or on the net recently.

Which means there’ll be plenty of opportunities for you to get involved, a chance to join in the conversation – it’s your show too, after all!

Here are just a couple of things to get you thinking…

  • In a recent issue of Vanity Fair, Samantha Cameron topped the list of the world’s most stylish women – but who would get your vote?
  • New figures from Ofcom show that emails, texts and Facebook messages are rapidly replacing traditional birthday cards. Do you still send cards to family and friends? And which would you prefer to receive – an electronic greeting or a ‘real’ card through the post?

Tune in to 107.8FM or listen online from 10am to 1pm – the studio line (01636 678033) will be open for your calls – you can email the girls on studio@radionewark.co.uk – or post your comments on the Girls Around Town Facebook page.

And in the meantime if you spot anything you think would interest other listeners, why not let the girls know?

Add a comment to this post or get in touch here before midday on Friday 21 August and your hot topic could be one of those featured on the show…

You heard it here first!

newark castleBack in May, the Girls Around Town broke the news about Newark’s newest festival on air – and now it’s almost here!

So it’s June‘s turn to hit the road this Saturday, although she’s not going far – just a couple of miles from the studio to report back from Ladies Day at Books in the Castle.

With talks, book signings and some special activities for children taking place in the Castle grounds on both Saturday and Sunday, the girls have been looking forward to this event ever since they first heard about it.

If you’ve been listening in over the last few weeks, you’ll have caught their interviews with some of the authors taking part – tune in to the show this weekend to hear more…

After holding the fort in the studio from 10am to 1pm, Tina and Sue will be off into town to join June at the festival. They’ll be there all day – and probably back again on Sunday! – so why not head over to the Castle to say hello?

Llisten in from 10am on Saturday on 107.8FM or online – and in the meantime, find out more about the event here

On the trail of sculpture in Southwell

swan_sanctuary_largeThe Girls Around Town are on tour again this Saturday, as Sue heads off to Normanton, near Southwell, to experience Sculpture in the Sanctuary.

On the opening day of the month-long event, she’ll be reporting back live to the studio as she takes a look at the exhibition of contemporary and traditional sculpture set in the tranquil nine-acre Swan Sanctuary at Reg Taylor’s Garden Centre.

sculpture in the sanctuaryOn show throughout August will be a stunning selection of pieces by many well-known artists from across the country, who work in a variety of mediums from alabaster, bronze and ceramics to glass, steel and stone – all available for purchase, with prices ranging from £20 to thousands!

Back in the studio, Tina and June will be going even further afield – if only by phone! They’ll be talking to the celebrated author and Cosmopolitan agony aunt Irma Kurtz at her home in France, ahead of her appearance at the Books in the Castle festival on Saturday 8 August.

Tune in from 10am to 1pm or listen online for all this and more from the girls this weekend…
