Are you up for a challenge?

If you’re a regular listener to Girls Around Town, you may well remember hearing June talking to various people from REACH, a Nottinghamshire charity dedicated to helping local people with learning disabilities live happier, healthier lives in their community.

With centres in Southwell, Newark and Mansfield along with two Flower Pods in the district, its team does this by running courses, social activities, holidays and best practice projects to find new solutions to problems and also offers quality one-to-one care support through Reach Learning Disability Care CIC.

With several fundraising events on the horizon for the coming months, the team certainly has a busy summer ahead…

And fundraising director Julia Sandhu will be live in the studio next Sunday morning to share all the details!

Maybe you fancy taking the plunge of a tandem skydive over at Langar Airfield in a couple of months’ time?

Perhaps you’re a runner who’s up for the challenge of the Newark Half Marathon in August?

Or is raising money for REACH through October‘s Virtual London Marathon more your cup of tea?

Julia will have information about these and other fundraising events on the summer and autumn programme when she takes to the mic just after 10.10am next weekend.

So make sure you’re tuned in to 107.8FM or listening on the apps or online to Put On Your Sunday Best from the very start of the show and find out how you can get involved…

And in the meantime, if you want a few more details about the events and how to sign up for them, just follow this link

Building better, brighter futures

If you were listening to Girls Around Town last month, you’ll have heard June talking about local charity Framework and its current campaign to raise £160,000 to help the people it supports.

Since 2021 Framework has helped tens of thousands of people change the direction of their lives, empowering them to overcome issues of homelessness, addiction, mental ill-health and unemployment…

And this weekend, its fundraising and communications manager Claire Eden will be in the studio to tell listeners how it does just that.

Claire will have an update on the current campaign, talking about how the Big Sleep Out went and sharing information about other events taking place right now to help reach that target, together with details of some of the things she and her colleagues are planning for 2022.

Make sure you’re listening on 107.8FM, on the apps or online from just after 11.10am on Sunday to hear what she has to say…

And, of course, to find out how you can get involved and support their aim of helping those in need across Nottinghamshire overcome the problems of their past and build better, brighter futures.

A Christmas party with a purpose

A first-time guest on Girls Around Town this weekend…

But if you live in or around Newark, there’s a pretty good chance you’ll at least recognise the name of the local charity Rosemary Holland will be talking about.

You may have already seen details of the event she’s been working on recently alongside Newark’s Town Mayor, Lisa Geary – and if you were as quick off the mark as June, you might even have tickets for it!

Taking place from 6.30pm to 10.30pm on Friday 26 November at LetsXcape in The Buttermarket, their Christmas Community Event is in aid of Newark Women’s Aid, one of Lisa’s chosen charities…

And when June and Rosemary starting planning this Sunday‘s on-air chat, top of the list of things to share with listeners was, not surprisingly, how to buy those all-important tickets.

A slight change of plan there though, because within days of the event details being released, they’d all literally flown off the shelf!

Which means that, unless you’ve already booked yours, unfortunately it’s too late to join in the fun on the night, when guests will be enjoying food and drink, a quiz and a raffle and of course plenty of chat.

The good news is you can still get involved and help support the amazing work done for women and children by this local charity and you can find out exactly how to do just that in the second hour of the show.

With Christmas fast approaching, Lisa and Rosemary are asking guests on the night to donate gifts for those women and children, along with essential household items for the refuge. And even if you’re not one of the lucky ticket-holders for the event, they’d be over the moon if you could do that too!

Rosemary will be explaining just what sort of things they’re looking for, how you can make those donations and of course describing the invaluable work done by the charity since it was founded in 1975 by a local women’s group that recognised the need for the provision of refuge for victims of domestic abuse in this area.

Make sure you’re tuned in to 107.8FM, listening on the apps, on Alexa or online from just after 11.10am to find out more…

And don’t forget to Put On Your Sunday Best again on Sunday 28 November, when June will be sure to report back on how things went on the Friday evening!
