Are you a crafty sew n sew?

crafty betty imageDid you just say yes? Then this Saturday’s show will be right up your street…

Michelle Baker will be joining the Girls Around Town after 11am to talk about upcoming events and workshops at her Crafty Betty studios in Newark. And top of the list will be the one that’s happening on Saturday 17 October.

With activities for stitchers of all ages and abilities, Sew Saturday at Crafty Betty is part of a national campaign to raise the profile of sewing stores across the country. Pop over to The Arcade any time between 2pm and 6pm and you’ll find plenty of things to interest and inspire you – from demonstrations and workshops to a craft fair and even a Sewing Bee.

sew saturdayWith free goody bags and a raffle in aid of the Sam White Legacy, not to mention some delicious cupcakes too, there’ll be lots to see and do throughout the afternoon.

June, Tina and Sue will all be putting in an appearance after their show – and no, not just for the cupcakes! They’ll be channelling their inner May Martin, of The Great British Sewing Bee fame, stepping up to judge the entries in the competition to Make a Patchwork Cushion.

Although they probably won’t say no to a cupcake to fortify themselves for the task…

Tune in or listen online from 10am to 1pm on Saturday to find out more. Meanwhile, there’s still time to have a go at one of the various competitions – the closing date is now Friday 16 October so why not visit the website for all the details and download the free patterns for your entry?

Baked to perfection

a good chocolate cakeIt’s all about chocolate on The Great British Bake Off this Wednesday, so what could be more timely than a masterclass on how to make the perfect chocolate cake on Saturday’s Girls Around Town?

And who better to pass on a few hints and tips than this week’s guest, Cassandra Jameson?

As the driving force behind The Big Newark Bake Off and Newark’s very own Flour Fairy, she’s sure to have the inside scoop on how to get it right – and why we sometimes get it wrong!

Who knows, having interviewed Mary Berry recently she might even share a few words of wisdom from the Queen of British Baking herself…

Chocoholics unite – join June, Tina and Sue on air or online from 10am to 1pm to discover Cassandra’s recipe for success!

On the right track

It’s Sue‘s turn for a day off this week, leaving June and Tina to share the driving seat on the show.

Cue sound effects from The Leader of the Pack, because joining them in the studio will be Sarah English who’s making a pit stop at Radio Newark to talk about her slightly unusual hobby…

Unusual for a woman, that is – at the risk of giving in to stereotyping, just how many other females share her passion not only for restoring old motorcyles but for racing round the track too?

Then again, maybe more than you might think – but that’s one of the questions Sarah will be answering on the Girls Around Town this Saturday.

Tune in or listen online from 10am till 1pm to find out why and how she got started, what happens on track days and what it was like working as a member of the pit crew at the Isle of Man TT.

Not to mention how she got on when she had a go at motogymkhana, described by the editor of Performance Bikes as ‘the most insane, non-lethal motorcycle sport‘!
