Sheer bliss!

bliss balls 2

We all need a sweet treat once in a while and if it’s a guilt-free one, then so much the better!

Taken from Clean and Lean for Life : The Cookbook* by best-selling author and wellness guru James Duigan, the recipe for these little Bliss Balls couldn’t be simpler.

Only four ingredients for the basic mix and a few minutes to prepare – blitz up a batch and pop them in the freezer, ready to grab and go as a pre- or post-gym snack or just whenever the mood takes you…

The book also gives six flavour variations, adding ingredients such as a shot of espresso, raw cacao powder, dessicated coconut and orange extract. But the basic mix itself is seriously yummy – don’t just take the girls’ word for it, give it a try!

One of the world’s top personal trainers, James’s client list has included Elle Macpherson, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Hugh Grant to name just a few. If you’re looking for more healthy eating ideas, you’ll find 150 mouthwatering recipes – from breakfasts, lunches and dinners to snacks, desserts and smoothies – in his latest book and plenty of other hints and tips on how to be clean and lean for life on the Bodyism website.

On the road again…

shopping evening - croppedIt’s that time of year, when June, Tina and Sue begin getting out and about again – yes, the Girls Around Town are back on tour!

They’re still waiting for the fully-equipped tour bus, complete with personal stylist, make up artist, hairdresser and the rest, but in the meantime the invitations are starting to arrive.

With cupcakes and chocolate, cosmetics and crafts just a few of the treats on offer, you won’t be surprised to hear that they jumped at the chance of enjoying a Shopping Evening this Friday.

And they don’t even have to travel too far for this one, because it’s at Barnby Road Academy, the home of Radio Newark

All proceeds from the evening go to the Barnby Road Friends Association, to be spent on the children at the school, and there’ll be a whole range of stalls selling gifts and goodies – what’s not to like about that?

On Sunday 15 May, the girls will be broadcasting live from the Nottinghamshire County Show – another shopping opportunity in the offing perhaps? – where they’re looking forward to meeting listeners and a couple of guests in the SMC motorhome between 10am and 12 noon.

Watch this space for more details of this and other tour dates – they’re planning a busy summer on the road and would love it if you’d drop by to say hello!

A crafty couple!

crafty betty 2From oil painting to pj-making, fibre arts to felting – there’s no end to the crafts you can explore with the help of this week’s guests, Michelle Baker and Kim Hurley!

They’ll be joining June and Sue in the studio to talk about some of the workshops coming up in Newark over the next few weeks.

There’ll be news too of the School Holiday Craft Clubs in June and August and the second Craft and Pamper Evening on Saturday 25 June, with even more stalls, workshops, pampering treatments and free gifts than before…
