Fashion across the ages

It’s all about fashion on the show this week, as the Girls Around Town welcome John Knight back to the studio…

The proprietor of Vintage2Versace, John is the undisputed font of all knowledge when it comes to the history of fashion.

He regularly shares his expertise in his History of Fashion Roadshow, an informative and entertaining 45-minute talk which proves hugely popular with women’s groups in Newark and beyond.

The talks are illustrated by models wearing authentic outfits ranging from Victorian times to the present day. Unfortunately not an option for a radio show, of course, but John will be passing on some of the highlights of his specialist subject when he chats to June and Tina on Sunday morning.

Tune in or listen online between 10am and 12 noon – and if what you hear whets your appetite for more, there’ll be news of the next roadshow too.

On Thursday 26 May, the meeting of the Newark Castle Group of WIs will feature John’s talk and catwalk show of vintage fashion. Starting at 7pm at the Salvation Army Centre, Mead Way, Balderton NG24 3GA, the meeting’s open to non-members and tickets are £4 each, including refreshments.

Book yours by calling 01636 679528 or email dorewoodwi@icloud.com and then just pay on the door – chances are you’ll spot one or more of the Girls Around Town in the audience too!

Treats galore at school shopping evening

barnby road logoCongratulations to Sarah Robinson and the rest of the team from the Barnby Road Friends Association, whose Shopping Evening on Friday raised an amazing £730 in just a couple of hours!

From paper flowers to puzzles, Father’s Day gifts to fizz, cards to cosmetics, there was no shortage of goodies to choose from. Not to mention the chocolates and cupcakes on sale too – because let’s face it, what shopping trip would be complete without a tasty treat or two?

The Friends Associations organises events on a regular basis – the next one will be the ever-popular uniform sale – and the money raised last week will be put to good use helping to subsidise upcoming school trips and a summer holiday play scheme, as well as buying book supplies throughout the year.

Taking the show to the show!

honey and beesThe Girls Around Town will be making it three in a row this weekend, when they head out of the studio to broadcast live from the Nottinghamshire County Show for the third consecutive year.

During the show June and Tina will be chatting to guests from REACH, the County Show’s official charity for 2016, and the Nottinghamshire Beekeepers’ Association, just two of the many local organisations exhibiting on the showground during this flagship event in Newark.

Tune in or listen online between 10am and 12 noon on Sunday – there’ll be news too of some of the events and activities taking place during the day.

And if you’re visiting the show, why not head over to the SMC motorhome on stand number M13 near the Lady Eastwood Pavilion to say hello to the girls and some of their fellow presenters?
